My opinion: I absolutely love it.  Yes it's a bit too short but it's so good, we can see how deeply loving and loyal Ivy is to her family no matter how said family was built together. The title couldn't fit better either it's just perfect.

This novella was also great to see how the characters have evolved and how some relationship grew...

to recommend to all lover of the series for sure for a short but great reading time that will leave you smiling.

My opinion:

           I loved the Ivy Granger series so i was curious about this series but it's sure really different. This book ( and series?) is really more horror than Ivy Granger's one, it's really dark  both in the events happening but also in the character's mentality.

The Whitechapel Paranormal Society is a group of women with special abilities who are part of the force but in secret focus on the supernatural elements. They have their male counterpart but those really looks down on them and even try to hinder their work...their misogynist point of view though understandable in a historical period still started to bother me after a time because they get the job done and even with all those men must have seen with paranormal they still can't respect them? even a minimum?  it's frustrating.

The intrigue is the start of something bigger and the mystery is really well written, really dark too. The different characters are interesting but we focus on Cora and Flan more than on the others so we see little of their powers but it's tempting so we want to discover more about them and how they choose that job , discovered their abilities etc.

That being said some point bothered me more. First at time , i i had the feeling to have missed something as the situation jump to another without really an explanation or link even if we go back to track just after  it's like something was missing. Then the relationship between Cora and Flan bothered me....somehow i think it would it would have been better if they were just friends or colleagues , the lover part even if not too developed sounded wrong . I don't know if it's because we get the feeling it's part historical and at that time while homosexuality existed it wasn't done in public or because it give the feeling no male characters could be good enough, open minded to these abilities....it just wasn't necessary for the story in my opinion.

But if that doesn't bother you and if you love dark urban fantasy with ghosts and demons this is really  a good horror book just probably not for me

Hello to all...;

              it's a new week and with the end of the year at the horizon the stress of getting ready in gift making is growing. However, this month there is a read along that seemed very tempting and book 1 was free so i had to join and i'm not regretting it at all .

My opinion:

          Great first instalment in an excellent YA urban fantasy....we are immediately immerged  in a universe captivating and it becomes quickly a real page turner.

I loved Cassidy, she is courageous and even if she is suffering she wants to help others...she is thrown into a world she had no ideas existed, she gets injured and she still wants to save her friends.

Killian is young but already a leader so when Cassidy follows him she become his responsibility even if deep down something else is growing. He is courageous, determined to do good by his clan even if it means not following his heart.

The secondary characters like Casper are also really interesting and we want to learn more about them.

There are a lot of violence - but they are fighting demons after all,- some moments  are really tearful and at other time we are smiling or laughing so this story really has it all and i do recommend you to try it if you are interested.

the only  thing a little bothersome is the cliffhanger but book 2 is already out so if you want you don't need to wait before continuing their adventures.

       Since i was absent last week ( hey it was my birthday and i didn't really had time for me so for the blog even less sadly) i decided not to wait and to introduce you to the second series i'm giving you my opinion on: The Big Bad Bite series by Jessie Lane. it's not a new series and i've been wanting to try it for quite a moment ( even got book 1 in my pile) but  forgot about it however a new release will be out soon so it's time to get back to track so here is my opinion on book 1.

My opinion:

          Interesting....while i didn't like the main female character and didn't really warm up to her i really enjoyed the universe and some secondary characters making me want to read more but let see that in more detail.

Adam is an alpha wolf, from what we can gather he did have difficulties while growing up because his wolf is really strong and present which isn't well accepted. However, despite all that he is a very loyal and caring leader and as we discover a quite patient mate to be, very tolerant and accepting . Really it wasn't hard to come to love him and support him even if i regret the fact we didn't get more insights on his childhood but hopefully we could still learn more in the rest of the serie.

Jenna is the opposite...she isn't bad per say but having spent her life sheltered she is ignorant of a lot of things regarding shifters and she  is definitively too self centered for my taste. I get that she wants to be independent, to prove herself etc but she is so selfish at time that i wanted to shake or strangle her. She may be powerful but she doesn't look for others than herself.  While at first she doesn't understand why Adam is reacting as he is and could be confused while she does learn the reason she acts like it's nothing, no matter the risk for others, risk she perfectly understand. No, trust issues aside that's what she wants when she wants....she must have gotten that from her mother but definitively can't like her at this point even  if she does act at the end.

Secondary characters...there you have so many that's it's not hard to find at least one you want to support  and learn more about him or her. Kent, the demon is funny. he is a police officer and was surprisingly good to Jenna. he sure made me curious. That being said i think i want more of the tigers though.... that family is fascinating and funny despite being highly dangerous and still quite mysterious. There is Alec, not sure what his real job is but he fight in underground battle which help him to be well informed. Then it's Gage....we know little except that he is fiercely protective of his family ( even Alec while they bicker all the time) and that he must be in some kind of elite army/ security shifter agency....all top secret of course but with a lot of interesting toys or electronics to be successful in highly dangerous mission..... i so want to learn more about him. Then you have the sister lulu, we only hear about her so far, and  even better the Russian grandma.....oh that one will make you smile for sure

I also found quite funny that if some groups are trying to impose to shifters to stay with their own ( wolves with wolves, tiger with tigers etc, etc) not mixing between shifters of different origin or worse with other paranormal. Both pack masters we learn about did the opposite, once with a demon, then with a tiger... It's promising some sparks. There are still so much to learn about this world but at the same time nothing is missing preventing us to enjoy this story fully so it's really well done.

There is a small cliffhanger but nothing major  we do get the essential for this story to be happy and it just make us impatient to read book two ( with tigers!!!!!). There is a major main plot taking place along the whole series so that isn't solved yet of course but  each book has it's own story which feel complete so it was really no problem for me.

If you want a good paranormal romance you can try this one

Le Clan des Nocturnes 2: Gideon par Jacquelyn Frank

Coucou à tous,


       Avec le soleil radieux que nous avons cette semaine, je dois dire que la tentation d'aller dehors était plus forte que mon envie de lecture ( avant que je sois terrassée par la pollution et totalement ko^^;;). Ce mois-ci j'ai donc décidé de lire un peu plus pour le plaisir sans vraiment penser aux challenges et autres obligations ( les non urgentes du moins)... bref après avoir fouillé un peu dans ma pile de livres trop longtemps mis sur le côté, je suis tombé sur Gideon, second tome des aventures du Clan des Nocturnes par Jacquelyn Frank.

C'est une série que j'avais longtemps laissé de côté mais le tome1 m'avait bluffé et j'en voulais plus. Le temps est donc venu^^ je dois dire que le fait que des vampires, garous et de la magie soient présents dans cette série n'est pas pour rien dans mon choix de lire ce livre avant un autre mais c'est la partie "druide" qui m'a conquise à l'approche de la St Patrick^^ ( et oui je n'avais pas remarqué combien de livres j'avais qui pouvaient obtenir cette spéciale saveur quant lu à un moment spécifique de l'année^^, un petit plaisir supplémentaire quoi.

Avis:

          Pourquoi j’ai tellement hésité avant de commencer cette série et encore avant de prendre un des tomes pour le lire, vraiment je ne sais pas. J’apprécie cette série et pas qu’un peu, le premier tome Jacob avait été vraiment excellent et peut-être je redoutais de voir la qualité ou mon intérêt chuté…il n’en fût rien.

Gideon reprend quelques semaines après les évènements du tome 1 et j’étais vraiment heureuse de retrouver Jacob et Isabella , certes l’histoire n’est plus centrée sur eux mais ils en font encore partie intégrante et c’est un fait que j’apprécie. Cela ne me dérange pas dans les séries de romance paranormale de voir l’histoire se concentrer sur un nouveau couple à chaque tome mais avec des nouvelles des précédents, les voir intervenir même cela ne rend l’histoire que meilleur pour moi (quoique j’aurai aimé qu’ils ne souffrent pas autant quand même^^)

Legna et Gideon forme un couple parfaitement équilibré et je suis contente qu’ils se soient enfin découvert ( cela me semblait si évident déjà dans Jacob). Oh leur relation est assez explosive ce qui est terriblement amusant lorsqu’on connaît la nature principalement pacifiste et diplomatique de Legna mais il parvient à la faire sortir de ses gonds en un instant. Sur protégée, encore plus depuis son invocation, Legna n’en est pas moins très puissante  et les changements qu’elle subit la terrifient ; cependant son frère le roi ne le remarque pas assez focalisé sur le fait de la protéger. Et c’est à cause de ce lien terriblement fort de frère et sœur que Gideon n’a jamais osé faire le premier pas même si il est intéressé depuis très, très longtemps.. c’est aussi la raison pour laquelle il a pris ses distances après qu’ils aient échangé un baiser plus que passionné par le passé. Il pensait bien faire mais il a blessé Legna la faisait se sentir humiliée et rejetée…depuis elle est en colère contre lui…alors qu’en fait elle en veut juste plus. Leur fierté est vraiment leur faiblesse à tous les deux… bon d’accord Gideon est aussi un peu trop sur de lui et arrogant.

Voir Gideon être influencé par l’imprégnation était vraiment amusant car cela démontrait une certaine faiblesse chez cet ancien tout puissant.  Il est vraiment amoureux et un amoureux attentif, protecteur mais pas un qui veut la priver de sa liberté et l’étouffer sous sa jalousie…. À mes yeux c’est vraiment parfait vu comme elle a été surprotégée elle a désormais besoin d’un partenaire, de quelqu’un qui croit en elle.

Ce qui m’a encore d’avantage plus à côté de la relation amoureuse c’est qu’on en apprends enfin plus sur les autres Nocturnes et leur passé avec les démons. On découvre un maître vampire Damien, qui sans réellement l’admettre considère Gideon comme un ami. Mais également les changeformes, garous, j’ai trouvé d’ailleurs qu’on en apprenait plus sur ces derniers, Siena est un change forme garou et la reine de ce clan de nocturnes.. je la trouve assez fascinante et découvre son passé avec Gideon était une réel surprise, très original (et en même temps quelque chose d’assez logique et commun historiquement parlant), je ne peux pas attendre d’en savoir plus et Elijiah a du souci à se faire si mon instinct est correct^^.

L’histoire principale suit son cours avec la guerre contre les nécromanciens et réserves quelques surprises même si pour moi l’identité des responsables semblait un peu prévisible mais bon je lis beaucoup alors ça forme l’esprit^^ et je suis vraiment intriguée de voir comment la suite va se dérouler.

Si vous aimez la romance paranormale et voir une foule de créatures différentes, cette série est faite pour vous

Péchés Capitaux ( Morgane Kingsley 5) by Jenna Black

Bonsoir à tous!

                     Dernier Lundi d'Avril  et donc dernier avis en français pour ce mois-ci mais ne vous inquiétez pas l'année est bien loin d'être terminée.

Aujourd'hui la fin du mois rime avec la fin d'une série puisque Péchés Capitaux n'est autre que le dernier tome de la série Morgane Kingsley par Jenna Black... elle a depuis écrit d'autres livres et séries mais à l'heure actuelle je n'ai pas encore mis la main dessus. Quoiqu'il en soit nous restons donc dans la thématique d'Avril avec les démons et la romance et un avis assez court pour ne pas trop en révéler à ceux qui n'auraient pas encore découvert cette histoire.

Mais pour le moment, Morgane doit mettre ses problèmes personnels de côté : en effet, un nombre alarmant de démons animant des corps en piteux état apparaissent aux 7 Péchés Capitaux, le club de Philadelphie. Pour Morgane, pas de doute, c’est Dougal, l’ennemi juré de Lugh, qui se cache derrière tout ça. Mais pourquoi ?

Il lui faudra se jeter dans cette guerre entre démons pour le découvrir…

Avis:

          Un bon final pour cette série que j’ai globalement appréciée. Certes il y a encore des passages qui me déstabilisent un peu mais j’ai aimé voir le combat contre Dougal car pour la première fois l’équipe ne restait pas sur la défensive. Et puis Raphael…j’ai vraiment de la compassion pour lui. Depuis le début il est fidèle et très loyal à Lugh, certes les méthodes sont loin d’être idéales souvent mais reste que le cœur y est et la façon dont il réagit avec Saul est vraiment touchante…je n’aimerais pas l’avoir comme petit ami mais c’est un allié précieux. Toujours ambigu, il continue à nous déstabiliser mais on ne peut plus vraiment le détester.

Ce tome reste dans la ligne de la série et ne décolle pas vraiment selon moi, les réponses sont obtenues dans leur majorité, on peut voir  un aperçu plus précis de la dynamique dans le monde des démons mais j’ai toutefois un sentiment de manque. Je suppose que j’aurai préféré une autre relation entre Lugh et Morgane que celle qui existe même si cette dernière est logique. De plus nous avons des renseignements sur les différents membres de l’équipe mais pas assez sur Dominic et Adam… je suis restée sur ma faim en fait mais c’était globalement une agréable série, malgré mes appréhensions, malgré les éléments qui n’étaient pas à mon goût Jenna Black a réussi à me maintenir fidèle à la série et je serai heureuse d’essayer une autre de ses œuvres pour voir si elle me conviendrait mieux

Les Péchés du Démon ( kara Gillian 4) par Diana Rowland

Bonjour à tous,

 La fin du mois approche mais avant qu'elle n'arrive j'ai encore quelques livres à vous présenter. Pour commencer, je sais que ce poste aurait dû être en ligne hier pour continuer dans la lancée mais cela n'a pas pu se faire, j'essaierai de ne pas manquer notre prochain rendez vous.

Concernant, le sujet de ce mois à savoir les démons là on n'y déroge pas, ni la prochaine fois avec vous le constaterez un certain terme récurrent dans les titres^^/... toutefois pour cette semaine je dois vraiment reconnaître que l'impatience est un vilain défaut. Normalement, j'attend d'avoir un volume d'avance en ma possession pour les séries que j'apprécie beaucoup mais qui ne sont pas  tout au sommet de ma liste ( par exemple je ne peux pas attendre avec un Patricia Briggs)....j'ai beaucoup aimé le tome 3 des aventures de Kara Gillian par Diana Rowland comme vous avez pu le découvrir et je n'ai  pu que sauter sur le tome suivant..... malheureusement ce dernier a un très important cliffhanger et le tome suivant n'est pas avant un bon moment je pense... comme quoi il faut suivre son instinct.

Les gens tombent comme des mouches autour de Kara. Les victimes ont un point commun : elles lui ont toutes fait du mal par le passé. La jeune femme cherche désespérément à comprendre le mobile des crimes pour éviter d’en être accusée. Lorsqu’elle découvre que la magie des arcanes et le royaume des démons sont impliqués dans ces décès, c’est la sécurité des deux mondes qui est mise à mal. L’enquête prend alors une toute nouvelle dimension.

Une course contre la montre qui pourrait bien mener Kara droit en enfer

Avis:

          Un très bon tome mais je n’aurai pas du faire une entrave à ma règle d’avoir toujours un livre d’avance car je préfère vous prévenir d’avance…. Il y a vraiment un cliffhanger majeur comme je les déteste.

Le danger se resserre autour de Kara mais ses alliés sont également de la partie et de manière très active grâce à l’intervention d’ Eilahn qui devient bien plus qu’une gardienne. Kara commence à entrevoir un peu plus les liens qui existent entre les seigneurs démons et , sachant qui est Ryan,  elle en vient à s’interroger plus en profondeur sur le système complexe de lois régissant les démons.

 L’intrigue est très bien ficelée et  continue de nous surprendre jusqu’à la fin du récit. Le suspense est toutefois très bien contrebalancé par des moments plus humoristiques ou tendres comme la relation entre Eilahn et Poupinette^^ ;;  ou celle entre Zack, si honorable, et Jill qui évolue très rapidement.

 Cela étant dit c’est un tome rempli d’indices, rêves ou souvenirs ce qui le rend très intéressant mais difficile à raconter sans trop en révéler, raison pour laquelle je vais faire court. 

 Un bon livre, que j’ai beaucoup apprécié jusqu’au cliffhanger qui m’a remis brutalement les pieds sur terre et renforcé m’a décision d’avoir  toujours un livre d’avance afin d’éviter ce genre de frustration^^ donc si vous ne l’avez pas encore lu gardez le bien au chaud en attendant le tome 5 ( ou même le 6 c’est plus sur). 

Une série que je recommande avec beaucoup de plaisir à tous ceux qui aiment les romans policiers et le paranormal.
