Short description from goodreads :

The man of her dreams might be the cause of her nightmares.

Six months ago, Abby Sinclair was struggling to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Now, she has an enchanted iPod, a miniature unicorn living in her underwear drawer, and a magical marketplace to manage. But despite her growing knowledge of the OtherWorld, Abby isn’t at all prepared for Brystion, the dark, mysterious, and sexy-as- sin incubus searching for his sister, convinced Abby has the key to the succubus’s whereabouts. Abby has enough problems without having this seductive shape-shifter literally invade her dreams to get information. But when her Faery boss and some of her friends vanish, as well, Abby and Brystion must form an uneasy alliance. As she is sucked deeper and deeper into this perilous world of faeries, angels, and daemons, Abby realizes her life is in as much danger as her heart—and there’s no one she can trust to save her.

My opinion:
Let’s said that the beginning is at least quite confusing, I got the feeling I was lost in a universe I didn’t have to key to. They are parallel dimension or something akin to that and the creature from those 3dimensions (one for faes , one for  light, one for dark)  can come in our world on a specific time, different for each group, however there is an exception if they have an mortal with whom they have a contract. In that case they can come and go how they want…it takes 2or 3 chapters to get this information and even then if could have been clearer..

Allison Pang created her universe and she knows it but sometimes she forgets we don’t have this knowledge yet so it’s disconcerting. Now if you manage to read past that and further in the book you can see a promising universe, with humour and action. I love the miniature unicorn, it’s because of him that I got this book at first and he doesn’t disappoint. He is cute and fun and still has a lot of mysteries surrounding him; we don’t know how he came in the shop after all…with faes speaking of mistakes fell dubious.
Abby is not a heroine without flaws, totally the opposite even: she doesn’t have the knowledge she should, she has several medical troubles but she is strong willed and have a bigger heart that she thinks.
Brystion is an incubus and I don’t read a lot about them so it was interesting but I still have a lot of questions.

Others characters are also interesting but to really understand them you need to know with whom they have a contract and what are the terms of said contract. This information is really personal so not easily revealed. However we can see that it will be a lot of political twist and intrigue, romance put aside.

So if this book disturbed me at the beginning, at the end I spend a relative good time with it and I really think I would enjoy the second book more now that I know more about this world created by Allison Pang.

Score:  3/5

  1. j'espere que ça se passera mieux avec la suite, j'aime vraiment bien cette série, le trois était tres sympa. J'aimerais juste qu'Abby soit plus déterminée dans ses choix.
