Wolf Moon (Moon 7) by Lisa Kessler

Hi to everyone!!!!

I'm strongly sick because i've waited too long to see my doctor but the antibiobics are starting to work their magic so i'm on time to share with you my opinion on Lisa Kessler latest release: Wolf Moon.

I must admit that i'm not up to date in this series even if i'm interested in it since book and i'm missing some so i couldn't have read all of them before starting Wolf Moon. Thankfully the author wrote them to be read as stand alone if we wish so and i was able to start with this one.

Now what did i think of it? You just have to read.

Happy reading

Description from goodreads :

As the last Pack member without a mate, Luke Reynolds has become an outsider. When he takes a job as the head horse trainer Sedona, Arizona, he’s looking forward to starting a new life. But everything changes the night he finds beautiful woman stranded on the side of the highway.

Raven Wood has been bitten and turned against her will. Luckily, her spirit is stronger than most, and she has every intention of escaping the Sedona Pack. Somehow. The sexy lone wolf who rescues her might be just the answer she’s looking for.

But the Sedona Pack Alpha has a mission, and unless Luke and Raven can stop him, they’ll lose everything.

My opinion:
Not being up to date in this series wasn't a problem at all as each book can work as standalone and it's really the case . I would be be happy to read all i have missed of course but first  i need to let you know what i thought of this one.

Luke is a great hero....as a werewolf he is used to live with his pack but lately it has become difficult for him so to prove himself and to mature he decided to take a job  far from home. He loves working with horses and he really good at that. However, Luke is already a good man so when he discovers a damsel in distress he must act even if it means going against his alpha's decision.  Deep down Luke could make a good alpha: loyal, protective and trustworthy he has all what he is needed except the want. When discovering the situation of the local pack and all what is wrong there he will not hesitate to take the lead to right the wrong without forgetting about his mate wishes.

Raven has never had an easy life, in fact her life has even more mysteries that she could have imagined but  past or future are not on her mind at the beginning. Suffering in the Sedona pack who changed her without her consent and kept her prisoner and sex slave, she just wants to save her sister. To obtain that result she is trying to get help of another pack which her own plan to attack but before she can reach it she is found by Luke. Not believe a man can be good at first she stays on guard but slowly they will built that trust and love will blossoms even if it still work.

There are a lot of violence, forced relations, enslavement, murder.. all the bad elements....but we also see loyalty, love , courage and honour in this story . I loved Asher and i can't wait to discover more about Luke's pack. We are easily swept into the action and following Luke trying to save his mate and her loved one. The rythm is rapid but not too fast. The relationships are building, we learn about each characters past and beliefs it's well written.

A very good paranormal romance, urban fantasy  with a big dose of suspense so  i do recommend you to start the series at the beginning if you can.

Score:  4/5

The Demigod's Legacy by Holley Trent

Hello to all!!!

This week,  i have a new release to introduce you ...it's the first book in a series which is in fact  a spin off from the Desert Guards series from Holley Trent. Being who i am i had planned to read the main series first since i have it to be up to date but i got  very sick and i didn't manage. Not wanting to give up i started on the spin off as it's supposed to work as stand alone...and yes we get some spoilers but nothing major. ( however since that serie box set is less than 1dollars right now i can't recommend you enough to give it a try)

I will gladly read the main series now so you can expect a review for it this year but for today let start with the spin off The Demingod's Legacy by Holley Trent.

Happy Reading!

Description from goodreads :

From USA Today best-selling author Holley Trent comes a new spark-laden shifter series!

Six hundred years after losing his wife and son to his cousin’s deadly scheme, the demigod cougar shifter known as Tito Perez still refuses to take a mate. He couldn’t protect his family in pre-colonial Tenochtitlan where Aztec gods freely roamed, and he won’t risk endangering another in modern New Mexico.

Too bad he doesn’t know he already has one from a tender affair with a sweet bar waitress he abandoned.

After waiting five years for Tito to return to his senses, December Farmer tracks her daughter’s absentee father to the small town of Maria, New Mexico, to make him step up, but he’s not the only one in for a shock. The town is overrun with supernatural beings and, apparently, her daughter, Cruz, is one of them.

December isn’t sure she can stomach being the mate of an immortal shapeshifter, but the stakes are higher for Tito. His cousin intends, yet again, to take away the only things Tito holds dear, and this time, Tito may have no choice but to cast his precious humanity aside and become the unflinching warrior he’s never wanted to be.

My opinion:
Wonderful! While i was a little afraid that since it's a spin off series and i haven't read the main one completely i would be lost it wasn't the case at all!!!. This story can work as stand alone perfectly even if you never read any Desert Guards books , now of course it's better if you have read that series first (especially when the box set is such an affordable price ( less than 1dollars for 4books!)  but if it's your first attempt at this universe you will just want to discover more. Yes they are some spoilers if you start with The Demigod's Legacy but nothing you can't live with.

Tito is a sweet demigod....he isn't an alpha, he is kind of avoiding responsibilities. He isn't a coward simply too sweet and kind for  the gods and goddesses scheming. Because he suffered a lot in the past he prefers suffering again and making sure his mate his safe because far from him than offering her the choice....thankfully in this universe women have a mind of their own and can take initiatives

It's one of the thing i love in this universe...the women (human or female cougar alike) are equal to their mate... they aren't little thing needed protection or crying for nothing. No they have their own role, different from their counterpart yes but essential, depending on their affinities, powers or sensitivities . They also have a choice. They can accept a mate that come with responsibilities or give up on such a strong love it's their choice it can't be imposed on them. Even better....as we learned with Glenda ( who we do see in this book) they don't need to change i always found it unfair that so often it's the woman who must change to adapt...in this universe no. Sometimes it can happen if she chooses that but it's no way an obligation...a cougar can love a human without troubles.

December is a good example of that fiery spirit....she had to leave home too soon -we do learn why so i won't spoil that- so she is independent and used to work to get what she want. Working as a waitress she met the Foye boys without knowing their nature and via one of them she met Tito so handsome that she was immediately attracted to him...one thing leading to another  they got together before say male got afraid and left without any explanation. Not only it's not fair or proper but without his knowing he didn't leave her alone as she gave birth to his daughter Cruz.
As a mother , December is determined to give the better to her daughter and if it means chasing down her father to make sure he acts properly she would do it without shame. And she succeeds which wasn't an easy feat as he didn't give her a lot of information to start with.
Discovering the nature of her daughter and her father....learning they are in danger...that's a lot to cope with but she will do it in her own way and if it means making sure her mate remember what is right and what he wrong she won't hesitate to put her foot down.
It was really funny to see her put Tito in his place firmly but also standing at his side. She is ready to fight for what is important for her no matter if the enemy is supernatural and she is only human.

Really it was a great story and i want more of that universe...i'm especially curious about the fallen angels Tarik and his friend so  i hope their book will be next. If you want a  good series with cougar shifter, divinities and other paranormal creatures. Action, passion and touch of humour this is a series to try for sure!

 Description from goodreads :

 The taming of the shrew…

Tallulah Silver is tough. She has to be—because she's the Choctaw tribe's only female shadow hunter, and because she doesn't know how else to survive the loss that almost destroyed her. Payton Rodgers has devoted his life to protecting his pack. But when mauled bodies start to pile up in the bayou, Payton begins to wonder if Tallulah might be right about werewolves deserving the blame. As darkness gathers around them, Tallulah will have to decide if she can risk opening herself up to love again. And Payton will have to determine where his true loyalties lie.

My opinion:
After reading and loving book 1 i couldn't wait to have more of the series as it has romance, action and the bayou setting so when i discovered that this one has werewolves too couldn't resist any longer. i don't regret it even if Tallulah was my least favourite character...i mean she suffered a lot i get it but it made her so bitter and so cold that it was hard to warm to her even if she got better.
Now, discovering who her mate is we understand a bit more  i think^^.

Tallulah is still hurt from the past events but she doesn't stop trying to do her hunter job as best as she can if no better. During one of her nightly hunts ,she encounters a wolf with unnatural behaviour but manage to make it leave. Since wolves are not native from the area it makes her suspicious. However no matter the nightly events, during the day she is still  the stubborn woman she is and discovering that a crew is cutting wood on the tribe land puts her in combative mode so she doesn't hesitate to confront the workers among whom Payton  reacts to her.

Payton is loyal; perhaps even too much he had a difficult upbringing and because of that he feels in debt to his pack..his job doesn't make him happy but it's good for the pack so he does it. All is about the pack until he comes across Tallulah who fast become Lulu for him. He is intrigued, wants to discover more about her - is ordered to by his alpha ( and worse)- but there is more. He doesn't want to do it for his pack but wants to protect her even more after finding her hurt. So suddenly he is stuck between two universe not sure what his place should be. I loved how honest he was with her ( i did want to shake him a few time as well so it was good that " Lulu" didn't keep her tong in check.)

The story was well written even without reading book 2 nothing seeming off, we got the info needed so this works well as standalone ( even if i recommend to read the others). the investigation was well done with the touch of romance and action well balanced.

I was really happy with this book, read in one sitting. the pace was constant, i saw Annie like i wanted so i definitively recommend this if you want a romance with paranormal elements set in the bayou.
