Hunting Fiends for the Ill-Equipped ( The Guild Codex: Demonized 3) by Annette Marie

Hello to all!

Starting week 3 of confinement, not fun really but lot of time to read make it so much better today i'm sharing with you my opinin on the new Annette Marie book that release this week ... you can't imagine how excited i am for all these releases now.
However i must point out that starting now both the Guild Codex series Spellbound AND demonized entertwine a lot so if you you want to enjoy it to the fullest it's better if you get up to date in the spellbound series first......both series are wonderful so you would only be gaining from reading both.

Now my thoughts on  Dominized book 3:

Happy Reading!!!

Publisher: Dark Owl Fantasy Inc.
Publication: 2020

Genre: urban fantasy
Violence: strong

Language: normal

Description from goodreads :

  I thought I understood power.

My parents taught me that magic attracts equal danger, and everything I've seen since becoming a demon contractor confirms it. I've witnessed how power twists and corrupts--and I've tasted power no human should wield.

I thought I knew greed.

Ambition and avarice drove my family into hiding. My parents died for someone else's greed. I've never hunted anything in my life, but now I'm hunting their killer--with my demon's help.

I thought I'd seen evil.

But with each step closer to my parents' murderer, I'm uncovering a different sort of evil, piece by hidden piece. I've stumbled into an insidious web that silently, secretly ensnares everything it touches. My demon and I came as the hunters...

...but I think we might be the prey.

--
Author's Note: The Guild Codex includes two series, Demonized and Spellbound, which can be read and enjoyed all on their own; however, this book contains spoilers for Demon Magic and a Martini (Spellbound #4). If you were thinking about giving Spellbound a try, I recommend reading it first.

My opinion:
FABULOUS!!!! This book is simply fantastic! but  i must confirm that to get the full experience you do need to have read the guild codex spellbound series as starting now the two series really intertwine together sometimes we get the same scene but in each series from a different point of view or sometimes we get explanation from one series in the other so  i can't recommend you enough to read both it's really worth it!

Now about this book it has everything !!! Lo of action, humour and part to make you swoon  like crazy!  We are leaning more about  Robin 's ancestor and also about the demon world and Zylas clan . A great bonus .....we get a large dose of Ezra to satisfy us until the next release.
The rhythm is fast  and it grip you since the beginning so you will be reading this easily in one sitting  (and if in confinement then barking at those trying to interrupt you)  it's a total page turner!!!

We do get answer but then also some more questions and a little cliffhanger (arg) so i definitively can't wait for the next book .  A must read when you need escape from reality! to recommend without the lightest hesitation

Score:  4,5/5 ( only because of the cliffanger)

Queen of Corvids ( Raven Crawford 3 ) by J.C McKenzie

Hello to all,

A New week stuck at home and looks like there will be many more to come but at least i got some good books to pass the time so i will share my opinion on some with you starting with teh 3rd book in the Raven Crawford series by JC McKenzie.

Happy Reading and courage to all!
Publisher: JCM Publications
Publication: 2020
Genre: urban fantasy
Violence: strong

Language: normal
sex: strong
Public: 18+
Source: earc

Description from goodreads :

Truth can be ugly and part-time waitress, casual PI investigator, and half-fae shifter, Raven Crawford, can’t deny she owes the Lord of War a favour. If she defaults on her debt, she relinquishes all her power to a man who doesn’t know the meaning of mercy. And she thought her bank loans were bad.

With her new role in the Underworld contending with her debt to a dictator, a budding romance with the Lord of Shadows, and her need to pay the bills, Raven is in serious need of balance. But the moment the dark fae walked into her diner months ago, she’s been off-balance.

It’s time for Raven to pull up her big girl socks and prove to everyone she’s no longer the burnt-out waitress with a nifty parlour trick.

She’s the Queen of Corvids

My opinion:
Great book! Really all went up in this instalment more action, more fights, more fun , more violence ( then dark fae are violent) and more steam! It's just wonderfully written to have us hooked right at the beginning.

Raven is trying to adjust to her new position of Queen of Corvids while staying alive and pay her debt to Bane...but she still has a lot to learn despite having Cole as an advisor as well as a lover....I loved to see her think about her relationship with Cole because it's true it went fast but she does reflect on it and dig deeper. Also Rouke show a new side of himself which is wonderful and funny

It's a non stop action with enemies in Mortal realm and others among the fae but not only. we also discover a new side  " Roller" thankfully more neutral because Raven has really a lot on her plate and she doesn't realise all her abilities yet.
This is a funny,  full of action, story but it make sense when read in order more as we can see the evolution of the characters  i was eager to learn more about the universe and this book offered us that  with an excellent intrigue
Raven is courageous, loyal and she has a good heart.  The only thing that bothered me a little is that i had the feeling one group got it too easy....i understand the why with Raven personality but still i wasn't happy about that  otherwise it's simply perfect.

to recommend

Who murdered the beloved citizen?

Was it a hit to score some extra lunch money?

My opinion:
While the culprit was evident for me since the beginning is till got immersed into the story and i was definitively more interested by Mae's past. We learned a bit about her past in precedent book but this time we get a real sight of part of it and it only brings more question which mean i can't wait to read next book..

This is really a great cozy mystery with a good read to keep you entertained until the last page and just leave you wanting for more. The characters are funny,  the feeling is good , the romance is cute really it 's a good instalment.
In fact this one could even be read as stand alone without trouble.

Phoenix ( Linear Tactical 8) by Janie Crouch [early review]

Hello to all,

Since the rain isn't stopping , i enjoy reading even more and today i've decided to share with you an early review so you can have the opportunity to preorder the book to get it on release day to enjoy!.
I loved the Linear tactical series since book 1 but this one ( number 8) may be the most emotionnal so....

Happy reading!!

Publisher: Calamittie Jane Publishing
Publication: 2020
Genre: romantic suspense,military romance
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: mild
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

 Adrenaline junky.
Adventure traveler.
Extreme sport sensation.

They’re all labels Riley Harrison—known to the world as Phoenix—wears as easily as the tattoos covering his body.

But it’s his role as undercover operative for Linear Tactical’s kidnap and ransom unit that makes his blood sing. Riley uses his celebrity status to help infiltrate locations and situations nobody else can get into.

In. Out. The fight is usually over before the bad guys know it’s begun or that Riley was involved.

But his skills and celebrity status won’t help when he discovers the woman he loves is keeping unbearable secrets and in a danger he never could’ve imagined.

She wants Riley to stay far away from her.

That’s not going to happen.

But he’ll have to be willing to lose everything to save her. To save them.

Phoenix will learn you have to burn before you can rise.

My opinion:
Really a great instalment, we get a lot of action, the romance but also we focus on characters feelings, their fears, their hopes  so we get deeper into their psyche and for both Riley it was something more than interesting. then we also get to see the other linear tactical members so it's simply the perfect mix.

The tension is high, the rhythm is fast as the WAR competition isn't to be taken lightly but  the missions on the side are more dangerous and with a tight timing. As a result we get immersed into the story immediately and  we can't stop before the last page even if in my case i guessed the culprit too early for my taste i still wanted to see how both Riley would react.

Really that's an excellent romance suspense with a view on how genetic illness can affect people ( or not) , so quite a few emotional moments,  and with a real feeling romance that will leave you swooning.

To recommend! ( Would work as stand alone too but the series is too good to miss it ^^)

Apparently not.

And nothing could prepare me for the screamin’ hot man with piercing blue eyes who shows up at my door. He says the note is his and he wants to give me true happiness. Money is no object. A wish granted from a billionaire.

Uh, is he for real? And why me?

I should slam the door in his sex-god face, because this guy has trouble written all over him. But the more time I spend with the demanding, arrogant man, the deeper I get into a twisted history that pulls at my heart.

Suddenly I do have a wish... Him.

My opinion:
This is really a good and funny romance with a touch of dark events, i loved it and had to read it in one sitting.
For her first standalone this author does it's wonderful! The story is great , a message of hope with well buit characters.

Ginnie is  a strong woman, she was deeply hurt but she is moving on, independent she put others before herself and she is an artist. When offered a wish she simply can't believe its'( true and even if it is she doesn't have one, in her eyes you must work to deserve something.

Mr Wish... he is mysterious, generous but buried behind that there is something traumatic too. He is partly broken even if he refuses to admit it

together they make a great pairs with their difficulties, their hopes and their feelings growing.

Really i loved this story and if you want an excellent contemporary romance this one you can grab and simply wish for the best.

Monsters Under the Magnolia (Witch Hazel Lane Mysteries 3 ) by J. L. Collins

Hello to all!

I'm back with the third instalment in the Witch Hazel Lane Mysteries, while book 2 had disappointed me a little this one is of good quality and made me want for more again....

Happy reading!
Publisher: J. L. Collins
Publication: 2020
Genre: cozy mystery, southern, paranormal cozy mystery
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

Lucky for her she’s got a first-class ticket aboard one of the swankiest cruise ships in the world. Along with her best friends, Birdie’s ready to set sail through the warm Caribbean waters, soak up some much needed sun and sip on some much needed fruity drinks…

But a trip to paradise comes with a price. And on a ship full of magical beings, the price is steep.

Murders. Kidnappings. Something fishy is going on aboard the Magnolia On Water, and Birdie isn’t willing to let her wishes for a relaxing vacation get in the way of finding the killer. Or killers.

And with an old friend in danger, Birdie is determined to get to the bottom of this string of murders… before she ends up at the bottom of the ocean.

My opinion:
I loved this new instalment, it was interesting to see some witches and warlocks to see some other powers and magical abilities even if we only saw a little.

The setting was great and it was even better to see all the girls working with Birdie on this investigation and to see how they care about Birdie  as well. The investigation was well done with some twists and the rhythm was just what was needed to make us unable to stop before the last page.

A great instalment for this good southern cozy mysteries series. to read in order as we get a light cliffhanger at the end of the this book.

Dead to The Last Drop ( Killer Coffee 8) by Tonya Kappes [early review]

Hello to all,

Lot is happening among which i'm searching for a kitten ( which has become really hard where i live) but i'm not forgetting my love of book so today i'm sharing with you an early review ( so you have time to preorder the book^^) of the new release of Tonya Kappes. Enjoy!

Happy Reading!

Genre: southern cozy mystery, cozy mystery
Violence: mild

Language: normal

Description from goodreads :

Welcome to the Bean Hive Coffeehouse where the coffee is as hot as the gossip!

“Fabulous fun and fantastic! Kappes nails small town mystery with another must-read hit. Don’t miss this one!”– Darynda Jones, New York Times Bestselling Author of Eighth Grave After Dark

Maxine Bloom has always wanted to try her hand at acting and when Loretta Bebe is desperate for someone to fill a role in the local play she's directing for the Honey Springs Theater Company, she asks Maxi to fill in and Roxy knows Aunt Maxi's head will grow like the gossip.

Aunt Maxi leaps at the chance for big theatrical debut in the charming play about a posh ‘60’s fur salon and the owner trying to run an honest business while his charming, yet caddish partner, Mr. Browning, is just trying to give a fur coat to his new mistress.

When the woman playing the mistress turns up dead the play comes to a complete halt until Sheriff Spencer Shepard lets Loretta reopen after the crime scene is fully swept.

In the meantime rumors are swirling like the snowflakes in Honey Springs and Roxy finds that she just can't stop from hearing the gossip and trying to figure out who killed the amateur actress..after all the show must go on!

My opinion:

So  good! It's always a pleasure to read about Roxy and her gang of friends really . This is so funny to see how they can all get together to help and at the same bickering over little things.
This book made me smile really, the investigation is very well done  with false hints and everything , the romance is super sweet, the pets are too cute ( i would have loved to find a Mocha^^;;) .

This is really the kind of cozy read that bring you a sense of comfort  like a good cup of coffee ( or tea in my case) could.  You are immersed in the story but you feel at home with friends so it's easily read but a real page turner as well.

For once, Roxy is asked to snoop ^^ after a murder but she must stay discreet which doesn't seem easy in that area especially when she must try not to tell her protective lovers....and all that while thinking about new idea for her coffee and saying goodbye to a friend.....Roxy is for sure very busy!

The added recipes are always a wonderful bonus as well.

A great cozy mystery, can be read as stand alone ( but even better read in order). To recommend

Score:  4,5/5

Pecan Pies and Dead Guys ( Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries 7) by Angie Fox

Hello to all,

Since i needed to relax and had a little time i decided to try to get up to date in some of my favourite series and this is the first step ( and i have no regret really ^^) so today book 7 in the  Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series by Agie Fox... let's follow Verity's adventures once more!!

Happy Reading!
Publisher: Moose Island Books, LLC
Publication: 2018
ISBN:  0373277210
Genre: paranormal cozy mystery
Violence: mild

Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 16+
Source: bought

Description from goodreads :

Sometimes Verity Long would like to forget that she lives with the ghost of a 1920s gangster. But the reluctant housemates must once again work together when a dead detective blackmails Frankie into helping him solve a Great Gatsby-era cold case. Before she can say “bathtub gin,” Verity is dragged straight into a raging, otherworldly house party. Worse, every guest is hiding something.

Meanwhile, Ellis Wydell, Verity’s living, breathing boyfriend needs Verity’s help with a police case of his own. After a dead body is discovered near the pecan orchard, Verity gives her insights, thinking her job is done. But when mysterious pecan pies start arriving at her house, she wonders who might be thanking her… or stalking her.

Between hard-living ghosts and sugar-laden desserts, Verity has her work cut out for her. But will she uncover the secrets behind the pecan pies and dead guys? Or has she stumbled upon a recipe for disaster?

My opinion:
This was so interesting  as we got several investigations in one and so well written to keep us on edge until the big finale. I really loved the investigation about the murder in the '20  when Verity is there it's really like we are living history  so yes there is a case to solve but i always love to see all the background as well  as Angie Fox really makes it alive and impressive.

So in real/present time Verity is trying to help her boyfriend Ellis with a strange death near an orchard not only the victim isn't from Sugarland and its identity is unknow but even her death is strange ( thus why Ellis ask Verity"s help) . If that wasn' t enough  she is confronter to her ex Beau with his new girlfriend as well as of course the devil  Virginia mother of said boys. ....it's impossible not to dislike that woman really who keeps judging Verity responsible for every action her boys takes.

Beside those " mundane" worries,  Verity find herself  trying to investigate a murder from 1928  that took place during 3 days festivities at a huge mansion now abandonned...if that 3nights limit wasn't stressful enough she must work with ghost detective that tries to solve that case since its death and he isn't helping. He came to have Frankie help but he didn't ask nicely it's either help me, succeed and you may get compensation or fail and i will torture you for eternity. Verity is just a living human, he doesn't care a  bit for her opinion and thinks of her more like a burden than anything else. However, since Verity and Frankie are stuck together  they must succeed if they want to be free  and in peace so pressure is high but risks and dangers are even bigger.

This was fabulous!!!  i do recommend you to read this in order but eventually this one could be read as stand alone still as you get info about what happened and it really focus on these investigation more than on Frankie past so it's well.

Fantastic cozy mystery to keep you entertained when it's cold outside but you will want the next book immediately after this one for sure.

Devil in the Details ( Ivy Granger 3.75)

Description: This is a novella from the univers of Ivy Granger  first released as part of an anthology.

Summary: Be careful what you wish for...

Ivy Granger, psychic detective and unlikely protector of Harborsmouth, must uncover the source of her beloved demon child's illness before it's too late.

Originally published in The Final Summons anthology.

My opinion: I absolutely love it.  Yes it's a bit too short but it's so good, we can see how deeply loving and loyal Ivy is to her family no matter how said family was built together. The title couldn't fit better either it's just perfect.

This novella was also great to see how the characters have evolved and how some relationship grew...
to recommend to all lover of the series for sure for a short but great reading time that will leave you smiling.

Heart Strike ( Project Kobra 3) by Tracy Cooper-Posey

Hello to all,

We continue with some new release but in a series i loved since the beginning only i can't recommend it enough to read Project Kobra in order as we get more info in each book and it's better not to miss anything.

Happy Reading
Publisher: Stories Rule Press
Publication: 2020
ISBN13:  9781772639896
Genre: romantic suspense, romantic Thriller
Violence: mild

Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 18+
Source: earc

Description from goodreads :

She’s American, he’s Russian. No one wants them to be together.

As a victim of the Kobra’s bomb, and with unique access to classified information, Fabian Santiago isn’t content with justice being delivered someday. When the Seven Seas unit bogs down in trivia she heads to Ukraine to find the Kobra herself.

When she falls—literally—into the arms of Mischa Sokolov, a charming Russian living in Kiev, their affair is so heated she is distracted from her very personal mission…until she leans that Mischa is not quite what he seems, and that her coming to Ukraine is shaking apart decades old conspiracies…

This romantic thriller is the third book in the Project Kobra series.

My opinion:
Once again we get a very good intrigue, i loved Mischa he is loyal but not close minded and he is very kind. When discovering a woman in need of help he does offer it without  having  hidden goals. It surprising how its past didn't make him a bitter man cautious but no bitter that show how strong willed he is. Fabian...i liked her less i admire her persistence and her courage but she is a bit too self centered and naive as well...i mean she really believe the bombing was targeting her  but at the same time she thinks that she can search for the culprit without catching the interest of the bad guys....it makes no sense to me so it took time to warm to her.

We do get more info on the Kobra with this book but we still focus on Mischa and Fabian adventure most, i loved how both intrigues were well balanced. We meet again the past characters as well and we see how good they are at their job when together so it was really great to follow them as well.

Now to really get into the story i recommend to read this series in order but when you do it's a excellent thriller full of action with a touch of romance with a lot of tension!

to recommend.

Scorched grounds (Normal Alabama 2) by Debbie Herbert

Hello to all!

today i'm sharing with you my point of view on the new Debbie Herbert 's book, my first thriller of the year.

Happy reading

Publisher: Thomas & Mercer
Publication: 2020
ISBN:  1542005868
Genre: Thriller, suspense, romantic suspense
Violence: strong

Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 18+
Source: earc

Description from goodreads :

From bestselling author Debbie Herbert comes a chilling, fast-paced story about family tragedy and confronting what terrifies us most.

In the eighteen years since her father went to prison for killing her mother and brother, Della Stallings has battled a crippling phobia. Her fear only grows when her father’s released. She still believes he killed her family, but the police don’t have enough evidence to arrest him again.

When new grisly murders occur—each bearing the telltale signs that seem to implicate her father—Della begins to wonder if the real murderer is still out there. Could her father have been framed?

To find the truth, Della must face her greatest fears and doubts—not only to find justice for her family but to ensure her own survival.

My opinion:
This book was a certainly very intense read....it put me on edge and  with the winds blowing outside it could have been perfect in a halloween night really gripping, dark , twisted....an excellent thriller. While this is part of a series set in the same city this is a real stand alone i didn't know there was another book but nothing felt like missing it's a complete independent story.

The author uses different point of views to tell us what is happening and they  blend together perfectly to create a very dark and stressful ambiance to have the reader on edge, fearing for Della and unable to have the feeling he knows who the culprit is as many twists and the different point have view have you doubting yourself after  every chapter.

It's really a great read but  for me the ending wasn't satisfactory enough...i can't tell you a lot more if i don't want to spoil it but  justice wasn't complete in my opinion  but otherwise it's a great  really great thriller.

Score:  4/5

Nevermore ( Raven Crawford 2) by J.C. McKenzie

Hello to all,

Since i got very sick end of 2019 and early this year i'm late to review some books and fo that i'm sorry i will try to get up to date fast as some really deserve the spotlight.
Today i'm sharing with you my opinion on Nevermore second book in the Raven Crawford series by J.C.McKenzie...book 1 surprised me by it's originality this one keep the quality and just makes you want to discover more.

Happy Reading!
Publisher: JCM Publications
Publication: 2019
ASIN:  B07ZDGY88J
Genre: urban fantasy
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: mild
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

Rundown waitress, part-time private investigator, and half-fae shifter, Raven Crawford, always gets the opposite of what she wants most. She works two jobs but can’t pay the bills. Her confrontation with Queen Lloth has unexpected and unfortunate consequences, and her love life is a hot mess.

With failure and disappointment honed to painful perfection, Raven’s life is riddled with complications, including her troublesome attraction to the lethal Lord of Shadows. When her latest case leads to a group hell-bent on destruction, she must decide who to trust. Will she choose wisely, or will she fail once again and become the next casualty in a war between the Mortal Realm and the Underworld

My opinion:
A very good urban fantasy story ,  it could perhaps be read even if you haven't gotten book 1 first but i really recommend you to read in order to see how the characters evolve and  to get a better immersion in this universe which get a little darker with each book.

It's a great mix of shifters, fae, mythology figures etc but of course also some humans not all of them with good intentions. This time Raven discover slowly the consequences of what she did in book 1 while the god of war gives her more tasks to achieve....Poor Raven has several missions colliding and she must learn her new powers faster than she could imagine.

The action is fast, there are some humour but also a lot of tension, we discover more about what is happening in the human realms and we get a cliffhanger that keep us on edge for book 3

If you want a great urban fantasy series a little dark with lot of supernatural creatures some very original, this is the perfect series for you but to read in order.

Heart of the Thief ( The Wardbreaker 1) by Katerina Martinez

Hello to all,

Today, i'm sharing with you my opinion on a recent urban fantasy series quite promising!

Happy Reading!
Publisher: Supernal Publishing
Publication: 2019
ASIN:  B07XSC9DXW
Genre: Urban fantasy
Violence: mild

Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 16+
Source: earc

Description from goodreads :

When you have an exceptional talent, you're gonna attract the wrong people.

First of all, I don't consider myself a thief. I'm a finder. I find things people have lost, things people have had stolen from them. The only problem is, some people don't appreciate the distinction; especially once I've broken past their protective wards and... stolen from them.

Enter, Asmodius. I may have stolen from him recently, and he may have found out it was me. When his henchmen catch up to me and bring me before him, he gives me a choice. I can face the consequences of having stolen from one of the most powerful magical families in New York City, or I can work for him. It turns out I have a gift he's pretty keen on exploiting, and as long as I play ball, I get to keep my head.

But there's another problem with that: this guy is a legit crime boss, and what he wants me to do for him is suicide at best. The worst part? He puts his infuriatingly attractive son on babysitting duty to make sure I'm keeping up my end of the deal.

Despite the arrogant, controlling shadow hanging over me, I have to put together a team to help me pull off the most dangerous heist in history.

Either way, I'm probably dead, so I may as well have a little fun while I'm at it.

The Wardbreaker Series is a fast paced urban fantasy by an author constantly praised for bringing a touch of freshness to the genre. If you're looking for great action, fantastic characters, and a twisting story that's not without it's romance, scroll up and buy this book now!

My opinion:
The cover caught my eyes, the story held all my attention. This story is very interesting and i loved to follow Izzy around.....she is snarky and speak without a filter too often but she is deeply loyal and protective of her friends. She has morals too.....she finds things she doesn't steal or at least that what she is telling and believing.

The story has some twists and  we discover quite a lot about the universe it set in but we are still left with a lot of question which makes it even more interesting. I loved to see how she selected those she wants to work with and her reasons behind it, it sure makes them important in my eyes and i would love to know more about RJ and Cassidy ( ok even Karim) they are powerful each of them but together they could be unstoppable if they trust each other that's it. The rhythm is rapid so it's become a page turner easily.

This is a really good urban fantasy i will love to continue the series if the quality stays the same.

My opinion:

What a wonderful surprise!!! this is among my favourite series so i did read and loved the books but this edition is simply fabulous thanks to the extra we get! . Really there is a bit of everything we could have hoped for along the year and never hoped to get! drawing of some setting ( i can finally have a better idea of the house^^) , deleted scenes with more Frankie, some behind the scene as well (and after 5 years i'm still discovering things about the covers that i had missed.)

Really this is perfect and if you haven't read the book yet it's the best point to start, if you have read the book , this is really worth the extra! I love that we get the stories in order too which include the novella that some may have missed .....just perfect
