Description from goodreads :

Sometimes Verity Long would like to forget that she lives with the ghost of a 1920s gangster. But the reluctant housemates must once again work together when a dead detective blackmails Frankie into helping him solve a Great Gatsby-era cold case. Before she can say “bathtub gin,” Verity is dragged straight into a raging, otherworldly house party. Worse, every guest is hiding something.

Meanwhile, Ellis Wydell, Verity’s living, breathing boyfriend needs Verity’s help with a police case of his own. After a dead body is discovered near the pecan orchard, Verity gives her insights, thinking her job is done. But when mysterious pecan pies start arriving at her house, she wonders who might be thanking her… or stalking her.

Between hard-living ghosts and sugar-laden desserts, Verity has her work cut out for her. But will she uncover the secrets behind the pecan pies and dead guys? Or has she stumbled upon a recipe for disaster?

My opinion:
This was so interesting  as we got several investigations in one and so well written to keep us on edge until the big finale. I really loved the investigation about the murder in the '20  when Verity is there it's really like we are living history  so yes there is a case to solve but i always love to see all the background as well  as Angie Fox really makes it alive and impressive.

So in real/present time Verity is trying to help her boyfriend Ellis with a strange death near an orchard not only the victim isn't from Sugarland and its identity is unknow but even her death is strange ( thus why Ellis ask Verity"s help) . If that wasn' t enough  she is confronter to her ex Beau with his new girlfriend as well as of course the devil  Virginia mother of said boys. ....it's impossible not to dislike that woman really who keeps judging Verity responsible for every action her boys takes.

Beside those " mundane" worries,  Verity find herself  trying to investigate a murder from 1928  that took place during 3 days festivities at a huge mansion now abandonned...if that 3nights limit wasn't stressful enough she must work with ghost detective that tries to solve that case since its death and he isn't helping. He came to have Frankie help but he didn't ask nicely it's either help me, succeed and you may get compensation or fail and i will torture you for eternity. Verity is just a living human, he doesn't care a  bit for her opinion and thinks of her more like a burden than anything else. However, since Verity and Frankie are stuck together  they must succeed if they want to be free  and in peace so pressure is high but risks and dangers are even bigger.

This was fabulous!!!  i do recommend you to read this in order but eventually this one could be read as stand alone still as you get info about what happened and it really focus on these investigation more than on Frankie past so it's well.

Fantastic cozy mystery to keep you entertained when it's cold outside but you will want the next book immediately after this one for sure.

Description from goodreads :

Just because she can see the dead doesn’t mean Verity Long wants to spend her days hunting ghosts. Instead, she’s over the moon to land a marketing job at the local bank…until she finds her new boss dead in the vault. Even her ghost friend, Frankie, knows that's no way to start a career.

Relieved to let the police take charge, Verity steps aside, bound and determined to keep her ghost sightings to herself. But when she learns the main suspect in the murder is a very crooked, very dead mobster, Verity knows it's up to her to solve the case.

She teams up with her ghostly gangster buddy Frankie, as well as the irresistible and charming Ellis, as the three of them search haunted mob hideouts, hidden passageways, and historic cemeteries for the facts behind the heist of the century—and a modern-day motive for murder.

Too bad uncovering the truth could very well make Verity the next victim...

My opinion:
Verity isn't lucky as soon as she get a new job proposal...a death comes to destroy her dream...that aside she is lucky to Have Lucy, Frankie and of course Ellis to help her uncovering the suspect.

I really love this series and we did get to see a new side of Frankie...he may want to seem like the big bad boy but he sure has an heart and does look out for his friend. Verity too is really loyal and we can have proof of that on multiple occasion in this adventure.
Adventures on the other side are full of actions and those leave us very few moment to rest but  at the same time we just want more. However it also leads to more questions: why Frankie powers are acting up for example.

Ellis' mother is still a bitch ( sorry no other words can be strong enough, you will see if you read this series she is too easy to hate) but there are other characters i wanted to slap or strangle.....

There is a lot of action, humour but also touching moments in this new instalment so i easily read it in one sitting and just want the next one. A series to continue

Description from goodreads :

From New York Times bestseller Angie Fox, the second book in the new Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries

A haunted library is no place for a girl who can see ghosts, but when Verity Long stumbles on a dead body in the middle of the main reading room, she has to believe someone…even a dead someone…must have witnessed the crime.

Her ghostly sidekick Frankie warns her to stay out of it. The very alive, very handsome deputy sheriff, Ellis Wydell, inadvertently places her directly in the middle of it. And her ex-fiancé, Ellis’s brother, is back with an agenda of his own.

Undaunted, Verity presses forward, uncovering scandalous secrets, long-forgotten ghosts, and a shocking trail of clues that places her directly in the path of a killer.

My opinion:
I'm loving this series more with each book; it's quite addictive. Verity is attempting to go back to a normal life at least as normal as it can be with a ghost as a guest in her house.
It's time for a big celebration in the city to celebrate a big battle that took place long ago, however when a corpse is found, by Verity, the mood isn't good to party. With a sheriff determined to have her as a suspect, Verity can't refuse Ellis plaid for help when he come asking for her to see if she can get a word with some spirits that could have seen something.

Not that Frankie is that happy to help but when she is determined, she gets her way...not that it easy when the library was at a time a military hospital so lot of ghosts not all of them friendly but mostly alone and forgotten. However not is like it looks like and Matthew is simply the perfect gentleman, i really loved him and he sure is quiet powerful but also knows a lot more than Frankie about the ghosts' plane  so i really hope to see more of him ( and he is a book lover is that wasn't enough reason to love him ). We see some other ghosts from book 1 but i don't want to spoil the surprise just know it will be extra sweet.

Then on the living we sadly see Beau ( who still doesn't get what he deserves, and his mother's that has it too easy even if she does suffer a little ( really not enough!) those are too easy to dislike or even hate...i prefer ghost over them.

The investigation is well done and the secrets well thoughts and found, when pride become more important than history
things are bond to happen.

I can't tell more without a lot of spilers but really it's a series to discover if you haven't done so already

Short description from goodreads :

From New York Times bestselling author Angie Fox -- a fabulously fun short story in the new Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery series

Verity Long doesn't want to see ghosts, and she'd rather not let anyone know her little secret, either. But when a restless spirit stirs up trouble in her friend's resale shop, Verity and her very new, very dead gangster friend team up to learn what is really happening.

They discover an age-old secret, and must learn the truth behind a mysterious disappearance…before it's too late.

My opinion:
So sweet! This novella is set just after book 1 Southern Spirits but mostly i think it could be read as stand alone to give you an idea as it does include enough information however i would prefer to recommend you to read it in order it's so much better. Verity is recovering from the event of the first instalment but not sure she wants to become "official" ghost hunter when Frankie is set on gaining money.

Verity is asked from one of her sister's friend to help in an antique shop and discover a ghost wanting to see his loved one again and let her know how much he still loves her all while giving her something back but he can't and that's why problem happened. Moved by his story, Verity decide to help, even without pay.

We can see with this novella how a gentle soul Verity is and really this was a cute investigation but really moving and so, so sweet... thsi novella isn't essential to understand the series i think but it's a great bonus so if you do follow this series (and you should) don't hesitate to read this novella as well.

Short description from goodreads :

It's never a good day when an ancient demon shows up on your toilet bowl. For Lizzie Brown, that's just the beginning. Soon her hyperactive terrier starts talking, and her long-lost biker witch Grandma is hurling Smuckers jars filled with magic. Just when she thinks she's seen it all, Lizzie learns she's a demon slayer-and all hell is after her.
Of course, that's not the only thing after her. Dimitri Kallinikos, a devastatingly handsome shape-shifting griffin needs Lizzie to slay a demon of his own. But how do you talk a girl you've never met into going straight to the underworld? Lie. And if that doesn't work, how dangerous could a little seduction be...?

My opinion:
This book surprises me and I really think I could love this series even if I didn’t give the highest score to this first book.  I did like it a lot but the beginning was a little hard for me to get into the story which isn’t really surprising since the heroine too see everything coming down on her without prior notice. Now after that first part, I loved it a lot.

It looks like in books including demons, the pets tends to “speak” a lot (literally or not)^^ this month,  first I met “Dooley “( in Demon hunting in Dixie), Kara Gillian got a cat  “Poupinette” with a strong personality and now I  discovered Pirate. I love Pirate he not only speaks but he is funny and he does have a lot to say in intelligible conversation none the less. He is the one who keep my interest high when the story was a little slipping.

What destabilised me a little is the beginning… Lizzie has been adopted she knows it so far so good. Suddenly, 30 years later, a woman call says she is her grandmother and Lizzie believe her without question, even invite her to her home the next day… it goes too quickly for me. It’s perhaps my personality but if I had been abandoned I’m not sure I would want to meet my biological family but even I was I wouldn’t trust the first person  who proclaim to be my family, I would do some research take some time to thing about it etc. Even more if I had a party planned the same day. Lizzie seems to be a really organised person, who doesn’t like to do something without programming it in details so for me there is a contraction there and it bothered me.

Now I can understand that grandma is determined and had planned that but still. And Lizzie who follows her after seeing a demon on her toilet – they don’t pick the best place ^^;;- I guess I was expecting more resistance.  Though as soon as the action really start, the story sucks you in  and you don’t have a moment to breath like Lizzie and the gorgeous griffin called Dimitri. The relationship between them is eventful, trust not easily given and let’s be honest, Lizzie doesn’t think for the long run when she agrees to take him as her protector and a little more. Now we will learn later that he wasn’t really truthful either , I guess it bothered me when he does tell her the truth , earlier would have been better but I can in some measure understand him… then again Lizzie forgive a little too quickly to my taste but with her life on the line it’s perhaps normal.

The biker witches are funny even if I wouldn’t want to share a meal with them, some are more likable than others but Bob is really kind with Pirate. You also get a share of werewolves, I do hope JR will stay a friend because in this book, werewolves are a little different not in a bad sense but their intern politic is quite messed up. ( though if Andréa was out of the game I wouldn’t miss her)

I loved to see Lizzie becoming more confident and following her instinct, I doubted her a little at a moment because she often act without thinking and some of her actions will have consequences we still don’t know but I she grew on me and I will be glad to read more of her adventures.

If you want a paranormal romance including griffin and really steamy scenes, lot of action and gore stuff as potion material^^ this is a promising debut for a series that could only get better. To recommend to adult only even if the cover could have been one for a YA story this is NOT one at all!

Score:  3,5/5
