Demon Magic and a Martini ( The Guild Codex: Spellbound 4) by Annette Marie

Hello to all,

On this sunny day i decided to share with you my opinion on lastest book in the Guild Codex Spellbound series by Annette Marie. It's a bit special since i've read the spin off first and that it covers some of the events we read about in this book but it just added to my pleasure ( both series can be read independently of each other) i just wanted more of Tori and since book 5 release this fall i wa,ted to be ready.

so enjoy!
Publisher: Dark Owl Fantasy Inc
Publication: 2019
Genre: urban fantasy, humour, magic
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 16+

Description from goodreads :

When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica.

Turns out they have a good reason for that.

My guild is strictly hellion-free, but some people will risk life and soul to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground. And now a demon has been loosed in the city.

My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked. And that's not all. The monster they're tracking--it's not hiding. It's not fleeing. It's not leaving a trail of corpses everywhere it goes.

The demon is hunting too. And in a city full of mythics, it's searching for deadlier prey.

If we can't unravel the demon's sinister motivations, more innocent people will die, but finding the answers means digging into dark secrets ... and learning truths I never wanted to know.

--
Note: The three mages are definitely sexy, but this series isn't a reverse harem. It's 100% fun, sassy, fast-paced urban fantasy.

My opinion:
I really love this series so i couldn't wait to be up to date and ready for book 5 this fall but  i admit that while i love it this is my least favourite so far. It's wonderfully written full of action, humour and emotion a real page turner  read in one sitting but  2 of our favourites mages disappointed me.
Aaron and Kai were really disappointing ...they know Tori and they know how she reacts so accusing her not to care was totally out of character . They protect Erza yes but he is the only one acting normal towards Tori ( bonus point for him)

That being said  this story was fabulous and we see a new side of Darius too.....i loved the tarot cards as welll because let's be honest ^^ Tori and the magical artefacts is a funny tale, i do wonder what she will get each time as we can't accuse her not to be practical.  Tori is as always loyal to her friends and taking risks for them and that include fighting demons.

i loved to see her reactions to some new characters and that include one named Zylas i do hope to see more interactions between them.

We are learning quite a lot about Erza and lot of others topics in this book which makes me just more impatient for next one. A series not to be missed!

A small note, we can see part of this story from other characters point of view in the spin off Taming Demons for beginner, you don't have to read it to enjoy the Spellbound series but it's really a funny addition and it can also be read as stand alone so in any case you wouldn't regret it, it does deepen this story.

Risk Everything ( A Bree & Tanner Thriller 4) by Janie Crouch

Hello to all!!

Today is the release for the last of Bree and Tanner thriller " Risk Everything" and i couldn't have hoped for a better one even if as often we are sad to finish the last book of a series.

Remember those can work as stand alone too ( but so much better read in order)

Happy Reading!
Publisher: Harlequin Intrigue
Publication: 2019
ISBN:  1335604650
Genre: romantic suspense
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 18+

 Description from goodreads :

The wedding is two weeks away

If they survive until then...

Following a fire at the New Journeys women's shelter, Deputy Tanner Dempsey is on high alert, and his fiancée, Bree Daniels, fears that one of the shelter's clients is being targeted. Outmanned and outgunned, Tanner and Bree must make a last stand for justice and unravel the twisted plot of a dangerous sociopath. Will it be "'til death do us part" before they can say "I do"?

My opinion:
Perfect!!  I can't believe it's the last of the series as i really want more of Bree and Tanner as well as Noah. This was just the right balance of action, lot of suspense, romance with wonderful touches of humour. Also some scenes with the women of the city are simply  too wonderful to describe, i nearly cried with emotions.

Bree is preparing her wedding as well as working at the women refuge and she made great progress since her arrival in Tanner's life and the road has been quite tumultuous. I really loved to see her grow in her social skills and becoming a real partner with Tanner. Also all the characters seemed more than realistic, the way the women at the shelter react and such which immersed us even more in the story.

Tanner is really a god man and his brother who has a bigger role this time than in precedent books isn't less wonderful, protective and loyal. I loved the way he reacted to Marilynn and her children. Tanner is determined to protect Bree and those she care for which means the women at the shelter but he wasn't expecting things to get worse so much and so quickly with Marilynn ex husband ...time to get proofs is diminishing as the wedding approach but no matter what it's against them Bree and Tanner are the greatest team ever!

This was fabulous from the start to the end, read in one sitting  and i just hope to get more of the whole group. To recommend ( can be read as stand alone but i do advice you to read the whole series in order).

Score:  5/5

Unwrap Me ( Storm Lords 4) by Nina Croft

Hello to all,

this month i want to do better even if i will soon be deep buried in Christmas gifts creation but first i deserve some reading time and i want to share with you the new Nina Croft releasing today and i still love this series a lot as each one can be read as stand alone but in order it's even better....

So today is book 4: Unwrap me and it's set at Christmas time so perfect book for this season.

Happy Reading!
Publisher: Nina Croft
Publication: 2018
Genre: paranormal romance
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: steamy
Public: 18+

Description from goodreads :

 Only five days to Christmas.

The Reverend Imogen Lockley’s busiest time of year. She thinks she’s prepared for anything, but nothing can prepare her for Devlin Royce.

A long time ago, Devlin was an angel. Then he broke the laws of Heaven and stole the Elixir of Life to save the woman he loved. Caught, he was torn from her arms and cast into the Abyss. There, he became a Storm Lord, a creature of chaos and destruction.

Two thousand years ago, Imogen drank the Elixir of Life. Since then, her soul has been tied to the earth in a perpetual cycle of death and rebirth. And throughout each life she is haunted by memories of a love she cannot remember and a betrayal she can’t forgive.

Now, Devlin has been given one chance to get her back. Or lose her forever. And he has five days to do it. Can he somehow make her see beyond the dark being he has become, to the angel she once loved?

My opinion:
Great paranormal story with a Christmas feeling to it as well. This is the 4th book in the series and it's done so it could be read as standalone but i definitively recommend to read the series in order as it help us to  more of what are in stake beside their love life.

Devlin like his " brothers" lost his wife 2000y ago in atrocious conditions, now he is looking for knowing that if she can't remember their love she will be lost forever....Devlin is protective and used to act first, think after....he never knew what happed in Zaria in her first life since he was thrown in the abyss by Gabriel after having been striped of his wings. By the way Gabriel is still a jerk.....for an archangel is sure isn't very helpful and i wonder if his actions 2000y ago were not led by pure jealousy.....because he sure wasn't forgiving and very judgemental.

Devlin is focused on protection Zaria, even thinking about preventing her to remember but when she suddenly appears remembering it all and being a vicar he isn't sure how to react while his feelings haven't changed at all.

Imogen is terrified of heights and has nightmarre of dying so after reading an ad she decide to try it but not where it was said in the ad because she is a vicar and fear the consequences it could have his people knows she could accept idea of past life. Result: she remember everything...all her precedent lives and of course the first one when she was Zaria a prostitute who fell in love with an angel...and of course its tragic ending for a sin that wasn't hers.
Imogen is furious against Devlin but still in love with him however the betrayal feels too fresh for her to trust him.

She knows he has changed and she wants time to think about it since it's all new and she is busy at Christmas time of the year....;however time is the issue and it take an invasion of demons to make her realize that faith is all what she need.

There is action ( no stopping), romance, some banter and we get to see characters from precedents books as well as insights of what is about to happen so this is really a excellent story read in one sitting that i would recommend with pleasure.

Except now Cain needs Hayley’s help to catch a murderer. Their past is colliding with their still-smoldering attraction…and the only thing more dangerous than the killer is the secrets Hayley’s been keeping.

Omega Sector: Under Siege

My opinion:
Very interesting and good stand alone even if i did feel like i missed some elements by not reading book 3 yet ( will do soon)
i really loved how Cain and Hayley got over their issues step by step despites all what was happening around them...they both tried to do well in their own way .Hayley is strong and protective, she is also aware of her faults and i really appreciated that about her.
Cain is a good man, he never expected to hurt Hayley as much and he is ready to help her when she needs it the most and i particularly loved how appreciative he was of her skills not taking shame of being less talented in that domain than her and seeing a bit of Ashton and Chloe that was simply too cute!

a very good installment in the Omega series

Score:  4,5/5

Get your copy now of the fourth book in the Vistaria Has Fallen romantic suspense series reviewers are calling “original”, “compelling” and “a rollercoaster ride.”

1.0: Vistaria Has Fallen
2.0: Prisoner of War
3.0: Hostage Crisis
4.0: Freedom Fighters
5.0: Casualties of War
6.0: V-Day

[Reader Note: This series was previously published as erotic romance titles in the Vistaria Affair series. This new edition has been re-written for a general audience and re-titled.]

My opinion:
This is my first visit to Vistaria but i really appreciated the fact that this 4th instalment was working really well as stand alone. Yes there is a continuing story line we can follow from book 1 to the last one and yes we meet recurring characters but this story perfectly works as stand alone with a complete story, with information about what happened previously, and romance.

In this one we focus on Carmen who joined rebels in Vistaria despite being the daughter of the late president....she wants justice for her country and to see it back in his full glory.  After studying abroad she came back on her own and joined a group directed by Garrett, a American doctor.  They relationship isn't easy, in fact at first she hates him as he is very strict and without pity but she at the same time realise that he is a very good leader even if he is secret and always grumpy. However as she starts to uncover his past, admiration grows into something even stronger. Carmen is proud, stronger than she think and willing to fight for what she believes in and speaking her mind....as one of the very few female in her group it's even less easy but she stays  true to herself.

Garret had a dramatic past....he lost all those dear to him and wasn't left unscathed ...during the night he is a doctor, an attentive one but during the day he is the leader of the rebels , in a war not his own,and a very good fighter without hesitation...it's a strange dual personality but when we learn his past it makes better sense. He is attracted to Carmen and  protective even if from outside it's look like the complete opposite and him being a jerk without pity. One thing is sure he doesn't play favourite but while it doesn't seem so he is very alert and observant of everything and understand Carmen better than herself at times. He is a good leader and look out for his group. i loved to seem him opening to Carmen slowly as it made sense he wouldn't rush things but not wait forever either.

i loved how we got both side of the story, Garret and Carmen but also saw what the other characters and Carmen's family were doing ^^ it's funny to see how large said family is and how disconcerting it is for outsider or new member. There is violence ( it's a war) but also romance and humour as  Vistaria loyalist have quite a large unexpected range of assets.

i would be happy to read the rest of this series as the setting is original and the characters very enjoyable.

It was supposed to release later but she surprised us by releasing early for her birthday so i couldn't delay, i had to share my thoughts on this one as it resonnated with something happing in my life right now ( no, no murder but the pets side of the story) so it was simply the perfect book to read during the Carnaval .

Happy Reading

Genre: cozy mystery
Violence: mild

Description from goodreads :

 Charming. Southern. Mysteries.

Welcome to Honey Springs where the gossip is as hot as the coffee served at The Bean Hive Coffee Shop!

Meet Roxanne Bloom, ex-lawyer and who likes to be called Roxy by her close friends. She's the owner and operator of The Bean Hive coffee shop in Honey Springs. Kentucky.

But when a dead body is dumped on her doorstep like a sack of coffee beans, the cozy coffee shop becomes an all-out crime scene and everyone in the small town is hankering for some good gossip.

Sheriff Spencer warns her to be careful because everyone is a suspect. Roxy's snooping lawyer skills are on alert and she can't help but brew up a few clues to help find the cold blooded killer.

My opinion:
This series keeps getting better -even if it means Honey Spring has a high level of murders- really this may be my favourite so far.

The investigation isn't simple and we really solve it like a puzzle with bit of info found here and there but really several twist make this one a page turner as you aren't sure of the motive or culprit until the very end. I love the setting a lot with everyone knowing each other in that little city and still so many secret and gossip.

Roxy is a great character, she really thinks of other and i love how she tries to help everyone while making her dream a reality...her romance is also really moving i loved to see it progress.

Now one part i can't resist are the one about the pet: Roxy relationship with her dog of course but also all the other she helps get adoptee and i love seeing them find the right owner.

This story is so captivating that i fear making too many spoiler so i will stop here and only tell you that you must read this one  and if you can read the series in order it's even better!!!

Today i will tell you a little about Six Feet Under the 4th book in the Kenni Lowry series that release next week so you have time to go on a binge reaéds to get up to date^^.

Happy reading!
Publisher: Henery Press
Publication: 2018
ISBN:  0373277210
Genre: cozy mystery, southern
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 16+

 Description from goodreads :

Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth. And let me tell you, this broth is in trouble. Get ready for a Southern showdown.

The residents of Cottonwood, Kentucky are sent into a tizzy when the Culinary Channel comes to town to film an episode of Southern Home Cookin’ with celebrity chef Frank Von Lee.

Especially Sheriff Kenni Lowry.

Her mama’s award-winning chicken pot pie is what brought Frank to town, and they don’t make hair in the South bigger than her mama’s ego after the news.

When Frank Von Lee is found dead from food poisoning and the most likely culprit is Mama’s chicken pot pie, Kenni’s poppa, the former sheriff, comes back from the Great Beyond to assist in the investigation.

But nothing’s prepared Kenni for such a personal tie to a case, and she finds herself pushing the limits of the laws she’s sworn to protect.

This book’s so delicious it’ll make your mouth water and leave you hankerin’ for more.

My opinion:
I love this series, as well as every book by this author, because really so far you can't go wrong picking one when you are looking for a cozy mystery well written and with humour enough that you will leave you  smiling long after you close the book.

Kenni has really a strange mother who isn't giving her any reprieve how she can be really supportive yes but most of the time it's embarrassment and complications...
This time a famous chef is coming in search of participants for a cooking reality show and Kenni's mother has been selected which means nothing can stop her now. She goes as far as doing some cosmetic treatment to be at her best.....however when the ghost of Kenni's grandfather reappears it sadly means that more gruesome events will occur and when the famous chef is found dead with what looks like her recipe near, Kenni mama is the top suspect.

Even if Kenni is sure of her innocence , this investigation will move her quite a bit and i loved to see that, she isn't perfect but she is doing her best and we love her for that. Let just say that Kenni will have more than she can chew but also it will show her true friends ( and some new hobby perhaps)

Really i loved it! All was there: the touch of romance, the great investigation with lot of twists and the great sidekick ( really who can resist Duke^^) and the humour to  balance all the rest; it was a great book

if you want a excellent cozy mystery don't miss this one! Can be read as standalone but you would appreciate it even more read in order.

Score:  4,5/5

Pocket Apocalypse ( InCryptids 4) by Seanan McGuire

Hello to all,

While my Country is celebrating his national day i opted to take some much needed time to read but it doesn't mean that i'm forgetting you. With the heat wave that hit us earlier this week i couldn't come online to share with you my opinion on a book but here it is, delayed but online.

Today i sharing with you my opinion the next book in the InCryptids series as i couldn't wait any longer... i love this series ans even if it's not my favourite character this time i couldn't miss it

Happy reading

Description from goodreads :

Endangered, adjective: Threatened with extinction or immediate harm.
Australia, noun: A good place to become endangered.

Alexander Price has survived gorgons, basilisks, and his own family—no small feat, considering that his family includes two telepaths, a reanimated corpse, and a colony of talking, pantheistic mice. Still, he’s starting to feel like he’s got the hang of things…at least until his girlfriend, Shelby Tanner, shows up asking pointed questions about werewolves and the state of his passport. From there, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to Australia, a continent filled with new challenges, new dangers, and yes, rival cryptozoologists who don’t like their “visiting expert” very much.

Australia is a cryptozoologist’s dream, filled with unique species and unique challenges. Unfortunately, it’s also filled with Shelby’s family, who aren’t delighted by the length of her stay in America. And then there are the werewolves to consider: infected killing machines who would like nothing more than to claim the continent as their own. The continent which currently includes Alex.

Survival is hard enough when you’re on familiar ground. Alex Price is very far from home, but there’s one thing he knows for sure: he’s not going down without a fight

My opinion:
Alex sure has a busy life especially since he met Shelby but while i've warmed up to him  he still  is far behind Verity in my favourite list . In this story i discovered how loyal ( that runs in the family) and determined he can be...the way he go against his worst fear is admirable but...i'm still not liking some of his decision.. i don't know, i find that there is less humour when he is concerned...in fact there was even one moment i was on the verge of crying ( could have strangled him then).

I did love to see Shelby family and i sure hope she will want to stay with Alex family instead....hers is sure too biased in my opinion to be good crytozoologists even if Australia does look like a wonderful place to study. The story was well written but i guessed the culprit too easily for my tastes even if Seanan managed as always to keep my interest, i do regret the lack of info about the local cryptid, some are cited but Alex doesn't described them as much as he could have.

This is a good instalment in the series but i'm really glad to change the main character once again ^^

Shadows Before the Sun ( Charlie Madigan 4) by Kelly Gay

Hello to all,

A new week start and September is slowly reaching its end...which start to make me stress at the idea of not being ready on time for Christmas. However i need to stay calm and go one step after the other so let's finish september before thinking october and even worse December.

The read-a-thon hosted by Tressa is now finished and i was able to read a little more as to surpass my goal and before i give you a complete wrap up that i'm sharing with you my opinion on one of the book i've read during this event: Shadows Before the Sun by Kelly Gay.

This book was in my TBR pile for a long time but i couldn't decide to start it after learning it was the last of the series because the publishers didn't want to continue it....such a disappointment as i really loved the series but i was afraid  to read it. Lately, i saw that there was a cover for a book 5 so  knowing the author wasn't giving up  i couldn't delay any longer and this read-a-thon was the perfect solution to give me the little additional push i needed.

Happy Reading!!

Short description from goodreads :

The electrifying sequel to the acclaimed urban fantasies The Better Part of Darkness, The Darkest Edge of Dawn, and The Hour of Dust and Ashes!

After filling out mountains of paperwork, Detective Charlie Madigan sets out for a death-defying trip into heavenly Elysia to rescue her partner Hank and bring the siren home. Of course, she doesn’t expect to leave behind an all out siren revolution or return home to find that jinn crime boss, Grigori Tennin, has begun a massive search for the divine being, Ahkneri. Tennin’s tactics set off a chain reaction that puts Charlie in the crosshairs of the shadowy creature known as Death and awakens Ahkneri from her long sleep. And when Vengeance rises, Atlanta will never be the same

My opinion:
Very good! I has been ages since i’ve read the precedent book but i was only confused for a few pages before getting completely immersed again in the universe. But i do recommend you to read this in order as it’s not a stand alone.
In this story we visit places of Elysia and i really enjoyed that part iit was interesting to see and even more knowing what we knew about the dark secrets hidden there... and the elysian ( adonai especially are so full of themselves!)

The plot is very well structured and the pace is just perfect... it could never be too slow wxith Charlie after all she can’t stay in one place or keep silent for too long ;) but it wasn’t too fast either. Sandra is a good friend for Charlie and her knowledge really vast while at the same time she is staying so mysterious and alone... foreseen part of the futur isn’t a power i would like to have.

Charlie stayed true to herself and i loved to see how deep her loyalty run. Emma is also as funny as she is intelligent and Charlie can be glad to have her. The plot is grpping all your attention as each element can have a role in this story or in the future which is something that is usual with this series but is also a reason why we love it so much.

Now  i must tell you that this book  doesn’t answer all the questions we had in the previous installments, we get a few hints, part of answers and... more questions and mysteries.  This book wasn’t written to be the last of the series that’s for sure to much is left unsaid like... who is Leander! What he wants etc.. we do get a kind of  conclusion yes even if the ending is a kind of cliffhanger it can also be saw as  the fact they continue their job so  i was both unsatified and glad it wasn’t an ending putting you on edge either.

I do hope though that the book 5 which has a cover now will really come into existence and answer all our interrogation once and for all however with this one i can wait without being on edge so  i’m happy.

Score:  4/5

Short description from goodreads :

Wizard sentinel DJ Jaco thought she had gotten used to the chaos of her life in post-Katrina New Orleans, but a new threat is looming, one that will test every relationship she holds dear.

Caught in the middle of a rising struggle between the major powers in the supernatural world—the Wizards, Elves, Vampires and the Fae—DJ finds her loyalties torn and her mettle tested in matters both professional and personal.

Her relationship with enforcer Alex Warin is shaky, her non-husband, Quince Randolph, is growing more powerful, and her best friend, Eugenie, has a bombshell that could blow everything to Elfheim and back. And that's before the French pirate, Jean Lafitte, newly revived from his latest "death," returns to New Orleans with vengeance on his mind. DJ's assignment? Keep the sexy leader of the historical undead out of trouble. Good luck with that.

Duty clashes with love, loyalty with deception, and friendship with responsibility as DJ navigates passion and politics in the murky waters of a New Orleans caught in the grips of a brutal winter that might have nothing to do with Mother Nature.

War could be brewing, and DJ will be forced to take a stand. But choosing sides won't be that easy.

My opinion:
Oh my I can’t tell you how much I loved this book; really the wait has been more than worth it. Suzanne Johnson manages to surprise us each time and in several ways while making us more than a simple reader caught in a fascinating story.

I’m still in hyper mode after my reading but I will try to explain why I’m so enthusiastic about this new instalment.
This story starts just a few weeks after the events in “Elysian Fields”… so while it could be still possible to jump into the universes starting with this book… I would not recommend it. With book 2 or even 3 it would not have mattered as much I think.  Yes the author gives us small reminders of what happened but to really catch all the subtle threats and implications it would be really better to start at the beginning so if you have the opportunity to do so I can only recommend you to start with book 1 and see the magic at work.

So like I said this is set a few weeks after DJ got injured and bonded to Rand….she is trying to adjust and all things considered she is doing quite well with all what happened. However peace never last long in New Orleans and soon our Sentinel has to face new challenge. The supernatural creatures being fed up with the power the wizards keep for themselves decided to call for a council of their own……and of course when it comes to power those hungry for it won’t give up easily.

First there are the matter of what happened (trying for no spoiler here^^) and justice must be given…yes safe that the definition if justice can differ. Jean Lafitte for example put trust and loyalty in high regards…so if you stab him in the back… vengeance won’t be he can forget….our Jean is not really forgiving and he has the time on his side.
Knowing that DJ’s Boss orders her to shadow him and prevent any incident from happening.
That’s only the beginning and one of the few things we could sure know Jean.

However more forces are at work and new elements over the past plot start appearing and the divers sections ( fae, vampires, shifters, historical undead, wizards, shifters etc) each react in their own way…. This can only lead to one thing: war if nothing is done to prevent it.

Dj has many friends or allies that are not wizard and she is one of the few capable to think more globally which can’t be said for her boyfriend Alex… as a enforcer he is a strict follower of the rules all is either black or white…all what DJ isn’t and that causes some tensions. I got quite angry with Alex at several moments but mostly he stays the same as he always was so far.
DJ has greatly matured…and more important she is starting to really see what she wants…now that she is forced to make some really important choice she is staying true to herself and I absolutely loved that.

Suzanne manages via the alliances, treacheries etc to give us a deeper insight of characters we have come to love or hate and really it it was done in a master’s way making us take side along with Dj ( perhaps not always the same as her either). We learn about past enemies and discover new ones.. the villains getting harder to identify sometimes and at other simply such that we want them to find their demise soon and in a very painful way ( hear me Rand…I did not like you and it’s getting worse). Also as we get a better understanding of the characters and their motivation we can see how it was never a real love triangle( I don’t see how some saw a quadrangle even^^;;), the romance get a little step back in profit of the action but Dj gets some clarity too making the romance one we want to see more of while at the same time we don’t really need it ( too caught into the story to mind).

I loved to discover the faes and while I’m not sure where I stand for some of them yet this made the book even more passionate, some characters are only cited for now but we find ourselves already wanting for more. The suspense is perfectly distilled and the action constant so I could not stop reading until the last page.

Really this book was a fantastic read and I can’t wait for book 5 ( please no more than a year this time!) really it was fabulous and the ending while I won’t classify it as a cliffhanger really make us which for more soon.
If you love urban fantasy this is really a series you must read.

Short description from goodreads :

When you’re near the top of the Underworld Detection Agency, the claws really come out…

Quick thinking and loyalty have taken human Sophie Lawson a long way in the UDA—along with a healthy dose of magic immunity. But when her old boss Pete Sampson asks for help after a mysterious two-year disappearance, she’s determined to find out what high-placed demon has put two ruthless werewolf killers on his tail. Of course, sucking up to her icy vampire department head and negotiating a treacherous inter-office demon battle are the kind of workplace politics that could easily get a “breather” way worse than reprimanded. And sexy fallen angel Alex is doing whatever it takes to heat up Sophie’s professional cool and raise feelings she’s done her best to bury. Too bad their investigation is about to uncover the Agency’s darkest secrets…and powerful entities happy to sign one inquisitive human’s pink slip in blood…

My opinion:
When I started this book I hoped to like it better than the last but unfortunately it didn’t happen. Oh yes the investigation was more entertaining and had some interesting twists that had me keep reading. However I was really disappointed by Sophie.

Until now Sophie was a character that showed a lot of loyalty and trusted her friends all while being often underestimated even if she is far from powerful or strong willed… I wanted her to improve with the time, to mature and learn. She did learn to fight and she is standing more for herself and what she thinks that’s true. However that was accompanied by her loosing her trust, her faith…  Seeing her lying to those she call friends, doubting them again and again wound me.
Sophie is stronger physically, perhaps psychologically as well in a sense but she isn’t the same good heart as before.

Seeing her doubting others like that disappointed me a lot, it even got irritating after half of the book. She couldn’t make her mind about her loves interests either.  That added to the fact that this book was a tad darker than the rest with a lot of violence and deaths of characters , which I wasn’t fond of but still, didn’t help me to enjoy it as much as the first one even if the focus was on werewolves.

I took a long time to write this review because I perhaps felt too angry at first to really put my opinion into words, after a moment I see that I did like this book, mostly thanks to Vald and the sword teaching part^^ funny and just coming at the right time. Simply it wasn’t what I hoped for  ( and I’m still angry at Sophie^^). I still want to continue the series and I do think I have the next book ready somewhere but  it’s not my favourite series of the moment at all.

I guess that what I liked less in fact was all the political aspects, secrets, manipulations etc that we discover. I prefer honestly so learning that so many things went behind the back of the characters and that’s is far from finished and we are starting to be unsure of who are the really good ones ( and if we hesitate, that Sophie does as well is more understandable )

I can only hope next book will have a good investigation part and some cleaning the staff of bad elements because some really need to be taken out.

So a good book that fit the series but must be read in order, if you love suspense, investigation and supernatural creatures this is a series that should please you.
