Hello to all,

                       If there is one author i don't want to miss any release because i'm never disappointed  that's Suzanne Johnson.  If you follow this blog since the beginning you saw  how my love for her writing only grew with each new titles as i kept being surprised...

After a long, really too long, wait due to publishers, book 4 in the Sentinels of New Orleans will be released next week and since i was lucky to get an early copy i can already share my opinion if this book with you. Despites all that's happening here, i did want to share my review with you before the release so that you could still pre order it as it's important for authors. So if you are interested in this series, if you want to read it after reading what i have to tell about it don't hesitate and buy it before tuesday!

My opinion:

          Oh my I can’t tell you how much I loved this book; really the wait has been more than worth it. Suzanne Johnson manages to surprise us each time and in several ways while making us more than a simple reader caught in a fascinating story.

I’m still in hyper mode after my reading but I will try to explain why I’m so enthusiastic about this new instalment.

This story starts just a few weeks after the events in “Elysian Fields”… so while it could be still possible to jump into the universes starting with this book… I would not recommend it. With book 2 or even 3 it would not have mattered as much I think.  Yes the author gives us small reminders of what happened but to really catch all the subtle threats and implications it would be really better to start at the beginning so if you have the opportunity to do so I can only recommend you to start with book 1 and see the magic at work.

So like I said this is set a few weeks after DJ got injured and bonded to Rand….she is trying to adjust and all things considered she is doing quite well with all what happened. However peace never last long in New Orleans and soon our Sentinel has to face new challenge. The supernatural creatures being fed up with the power the wizards keep for themselves decided to call for a council of their own……and of course when it comes to power those hungry for it won’t give up easily.

First there are the matter of what happened (trying for no spoiler here^^) and justice must be given…yes safe that the definition if justice can differ. Jean Lafitte for example put trust and loyalty in high regards…so if you stab him in the back… vengeance won’t be he can forget….our Jean is not really forgiving and he has the time on his side.

Knowing that DJ’s Boss orders her to shadow him and prevent any incident from happening.

That’s only the beginning and one of the few things we could sure know Jean.

However more forces are at work and new elements over the past plot start appearing and the divers sections ( fae, vampires, shifters, historical undead, wizards, shifters etc) each react in their own way…. This can only lead to one thing: war if nothing is done to prevent it.

Dj has many friends or allies that are not wizard and she is one of the few capable to think more globally which can’t be said for her boyfriend Alex… as a enforcer he is a strict follower of the rules all is either black or white…all what DJ isn’t and that causes some tensions. I got quite angry with Alex at several moments but mostly he stays the same as he always was so far.

DJ has greatly matured…and more important she is starting to really see what she wants…now that she is forced to make some really important choice she is staying true to herself and I absolutely loved that.

Suzanne manages via the alliances, treacheries etc to give us a deeper insight of characters we have come to love or hate and really it it was done in a master’s way making us take side along with Dj ( perhaps not always the same as her either). We learn about past enemies and discover new ones.. the villains getting harder to identify sometimes and at other simply such that we want them to find their demise soon and in a very painful way ( hear me Rand…I did not like you and it’s getting worse). Also as we get a better understanding of the characters and their motivation we can see how it was never a real love triangle( I don’t see how some saw a quadrangle even^^;;), the romance get a little step back in profit of the action but Dj gets some clarity too making the romance one we want to see more of while at the same time we don’t really need it ( too caught into the story to mind).

I loved to discover the faes and while I’m not sure where I stand for some of them yet this made the book even more passionate, some characters are only cited for now but we find ourselves already wanting for more. The suspense is perfectly distilled and the action constant so I could not stop reading until the last page.

 Really this book was a fantastic read and I can’t wait for book 5 ( please no more than a year this time!) really it was fabulous and the ending while I won’t classify it as a cliffhanger really make us which for more soon.

If you love urban fantasy this is really a series you must read.

Elysian Fields ( sentinels of New Orleans 3) de Suzanne Johnson paraît aujourd'hui aux USA!! ( avis+ annonce)

Coucou tout le monde!!

Normalement, lorsque j’écris un avis bilingue Français/Anglais je les met en ligne le même jour, or, vous avez pu cette fois constater que la version anglais a été postée bien avant.

La raison en était bien simple pour les résidents des Etats-Unis, le tome 1 était en promotion dans sa version digitale et comme une seule vente peut faire la différence entre une série qui se poursuit et un contrat non renouvelé je tenais à le leur rappeler…. En Europe nous ne disposions pas de cette promotion dès lors je préférais vous parler de ce livre le jour de sa sortie.

Pour une fois je ne vais pas non plus faire une traduction exacte mais simplement vous transmettre mon avis tel quel car vous devez découvrir ce livre et  méritez plus qu’une simple traduction et  le fond lui-même reste identique : j’ai adoré ce livre !!

Oh et avant que je n’oublie une annonce qui vous fera plaisir, si vous avez lu et aimé les deux premiers volumes de la séries et êtes fan de Jean Lafitte comme moi, sachez que vous pouvez lire une histoire courte "Jackson Square" le mettant en scène, celle-ci est disponible gratuitement sur le site de l’auteur ici et ce uniquement durant ce mois d’Août après quoi seule la version payante sera disponible.

Alors sans plus attendre voici « Elysian Fields » troisième tome de la série de Suzanne Johnson intitulée «  les Sentinelles de la Nouvelle Orléans », série que je rêverai de voir publier en France un jour.

Le conflit entre les Mers a été résolu mais la vie dans la Louisiane du Sud a encore bien plus de revirements que le boueux Mississipi.

Affronter un tueur en série non-mort alors que les ennuis ne font que s’accumuler autour d’elle n’est pas chose facile. La nature de loup garou de Jake Warin ne fait qu’empirer, son voisin énigmatique Quince Randolph agit de manière encore plus étrange que d’habitude, Les anciens insistent pour qu’elle suivent des leçons sur la magie elfique avec le sorcier le plus ennuyant du monde et son partenaire Alex Warin devient plus qu’un coéquipier.

Sous compter les grandes intrigues prenant place dans le monde préternaturel. 

Soudain,  emménager dans le Beyond en tant que compagne de Jean Lafitte pourrait bien être la meilleure option pour DJ.

Avis:

          Un  formidable tome mais qui marque un tournant pour cette série. Jusqu’à présent, Les «Sentinelles de la nouvelle Orléans » était une série d’urban fantasy mais avec de forts accents d’humour et de romance qui en faisait une lecture agréable, pleine d’action et d’humour … désormais il s’agit d’une série d’urban fantasy pure. Certain il y a toujours de l’humour et de la romance mais ceux-ci ne sont plus prédominants et ne se mettent plus qu’au service du récit dans son ensemble. « Elysian Fields» apparaît dès lors plus sombre et violent que les livres précédents «  Royal Street » & «  River Road »

Cette évolution pourrait déstabiliser un peu au départ ceux qui s’attendait à une histoire dans le même ton que précédemment mais une fois la surprise passée on découvre tout le talent de l’auteur qui parvient une fois encore à se surpasser et à maintenir une histoire d’une toute grande qualité.

Un autre détail important à préciser : ce tome peut être lu indépendamment des autres. Suzanne Johnson fait effectivement des rappels d’événements passés et des bases de son univers de sorte que le lecteur qui commencerait la série par ce tome sans aucune connaissance préalable puisse se plonger dans le récit sans difficulté. Ce tome est en fait le début d’un nouvel arc dans la série (et donc  les livres suivants devront impérativement être lu dans l’ordre).  Bon cela étant dit, je vous conseille quand même fortement de lire « Royal Street » et « River Road » avant non seulement ils sont excellents mais vous en apprécierez d’autant plus l’évolution des personnages.

J’ai, par exemple, vraiment apprécié de voir comment DJ était capable de remettre son attitude en question vis-à-vis de Jake cela montre une certaine maturité. L’évolution de la relation entre DJ et Alex est loin d’être simple mais les premiers pas sont faits et c’est effectivement le plus difficile. Jean Lafitte est toujours aussi magnifique et il peut autant être sérieux et déterminés  lorsque les circonstances l’exigent que drôle et amusant. Rand est toujours aussi mystérieux et bien qu’il soit temporairement un allié ses motivations restent assez troubles et je ne peux que vouloir en savoir plus.

Suzanne Johnson a vraiment réussit  à créer un récit captivant jusqu’à la dernière page et les revirements et retournements de situations sont nombreux mais toujours adaptés et bien placés… je n’ai pas pu deviner les motivations ou l’identité du «  commanditaire » . la tension a été maintenue tout le long avec par-ci par là de légère touches de romance ou d’humour pour  permettre au lecteur de respirer. En effet, au vu de l’enquête menée, sur un tueur en série, les actes violents et les scènes macabres sont bien présents et vu le talents de l’auteur pour les descriptions on est heureux qu’elle ne soit pas entrée dans les détails^^ l’ambiance est parfaitement ressentie telle quelle.

Elysian Fields nous introduit enfin plus dans l’univers des elfes de ce monde et on le regretterait presque tant ils sont manipulateurs, violents et assoiffés de pouvoirs. On apprend leurs systèmes de pouvoir, les différents clans et leurs pouvoirs respectifs. D’autre part on découvre les vampires qui n’était que cité jusqu’à présents. Les luttes entre les différents groupes de créatures surnaturelles deviennent plus claires ainsi que les luttes a l’intérieure même des divers groupes. Ce qui promets bien des ennuis pour DJ qui aura d’autant plus besoin de ses alliés.

En effet, son équipe s’agrandit, René l’homme sirène, n’hésite pas à se joindre à eux lorsque de la bagarre est dans l’air  mais Ken Hachette, le détective à la criminelle, 100% humain se voit enfin annoncer la vérité «  nous ne sommes pas seuls dans l’univers » ^^, d’abord déboussolé il s’adapte assez bien puisque cela explique les choses étranges auxquelles il a été confronté. Les nouveaux venus sont donc bien accueillis d’autant plus lors que Jake est occupé à réglé ses propres problèmes, qu’Alex est en pleine crise de doutes puisque tout ne peut pas être parfaitement fait dans les règles et que des raccourcis sont nécessaires, quant à Jean, toujours loyal il est là et bien là mais il a aussi son empire à gérer en Baratia.

En résumé si vous voulez une histoire pleine d’actions, suspense, mystères avec un touche d’humour et de romances, je vous recommande pleinement « Elysian Fields » et la série «  Les sentinelles de la Nouvelle Orléans »

                   Today is really good one for all the fans of the urban fantasy series written by the talented Suzanne Johnson and I have a lot to share with you as you know “Sentinels of New Orleans” is one of my favourite series.

            It's with a great pleasure that i will share with you my review of  "River Road" second book of the Sentinels of New Orleans series by Suzanne Johnson. I nearly could not do it because i should have received an arc but the postal service didn't do it's job - one of the bad news of this month- fortunately Suzanne kindly gave me an ebook copy so i could give you my opinion before the official release of the book.

Why do i wanted to give you this review before the release date? Two main reasons. First, like it told you already here so a few days left, the author is sharing with you a short story about Rene Delachaise one character important in River Road, this novella Chenoire can be read here so if you haven't read Chenoire yet  please go to read it. Even if you haven't never read Royal Street ( my review) you can enjoy it without problem, don't hesitate and give it a try.

Second reason: Suzanne Johnson is really a generous author and for once she needs us andi wanted to help too. Let me explain. The area in which River Road takes place called " Plaquemines Parish" - and all that coast too- suffered recently from a oil pollution, that added to all the tempests and hurricanes before makes a lot for the envrirronment and inhabitants. Suzanne has generously decided to give a percentage of her royalties on this book "River Road" to a special fund that was created to helps those communities. By pre ordering and buying this book you will help too. A small gesture but all put together could be a great helps so please think about it this book really deserves it.

My opinion:

          Fabulous! Above all my expectations; I’m used to Suzanne‘s writing style and so far she never disappointed me so I couldn’t wait to read this book. However book 1 “Royal Street” was really well written with a great story and I though book 2 was going to be playing in the same league: a really good book. Big Mistake, ”River Road” is even better a “must have” for any urban fantasy fan.

This story takes place 3 years after the events of “Royal Street”, DJ is still the Sentinel of New Orleans with Alex as a partner since the elders don’t trust her enough to handle the job yet. Their relationship has calmed down a bit and now they do trust each other and don’t regret their assignment.

We discover a more responsible DJ, not as impulsive as before. She has learned from her mistakes, or is sometimes still trying, and does her best. Still wound by the lost of Gerry, DJ is still afraid to loose someone else or to see someone dear to her being hurt or leaving her. It’s the reason she tries her best to stay professional with Alex and when she knows she is doing something that could endanger his position she prefers to let him know afterwards.

She is also more attentive to the “reality” around her and can put the elders and their system in question, discreetly of course – Who wouldn’t want to hit Hoffman?-. She is using her own talents and gifts when it’s needed; she has accepted her difference and heritage. She still has her pet – or little master ^^- Sebastian, so funny little thing and I understand her feeling when he makes his stink eyes…mine acts more friendly but also part Siamese and I know those eyes too well *brrr*

Now, as for her heart, it’s more complicated. No matter how much she denies it she is attracted by Alex, she thinks she has that in control until he decides to act more no matter the competition. Because the competition is there first there is Jake, after being mad at her and disappearing for 3 years, he still wants her and he doesn’t fear to tell her, show her and ask for a date. . Then there is Jean Lafitte, immortal historical undead, cunning and sexy, who flirts with her since day one. Not sure if he is that sincere but he doesn’t leave her indifferent.  For a girl who was mostly alone, it’s a bit too much at the same time^^.

I must admit I really enjoy Jean Lafitte. He is fun, intelligent and he knows what he wants –perhaps not concerning DJ- his honour is important and he is really determined. You should not underestimate him. I love it’s relation with our favourite wizard even if Alex is also really interesting with her.

In this book, Alex tries to make his feeling known and with someone as DJ that’s not an easy task. He goes all alpha and protective on her. Possessive even, when it comes to Jake and Jean, but he is able to see past that for the good of the investigation and DJ’s safety. He was so fun this time,I can’t tell you why but you could be laughing to tears at some passage of this book^^.

The story in itself is excellent; we have action, suspense and humour all perfectly dosed with a touch of romance to keep our heart beating and a small dose of drama to keep us on toes.  The investigation here was original and captivating. Suzanne managed to surprise me with several twists and I wasn’t expecting the ending at all.  (Though I have high suspicions about Rand…) The humour was welcome and didn’t clash with the seriousness of the investigation at all…I laughed so much with this book (Sebastian high on magic , the family dinner so dreaded)that in the end I was nearly crying all the time from laughing or emotion ( some descriptions of “post Katrina” are emotionally charged, DJ’s thought on Gerry and Jake) it’s so well written that you can’t stay unmoved.

Added bonus, we got to meet new creatures: mermen (not new you if you have read “Chenoire”, so ^^ jump on it while it’s still available), Rene is really a interesting character and I hope we will see more of him. Nymphs (you will love their “human” job) and finally we met one elf, a proclaimed one, an elder really important and not friendly at all. So we can expect a lot of adventure and action in the future. (Jean was so protective and loyal hum ^^ he is winning good points^^)

I really enjoyed the description of the wetlands area and the old New Orleans, we can feel the love Suzanne Johnson has for the region and it’s communicative, it really made me want to learn more about it. She is slowly becoming a major author of the urban fantasy with this book.

To recommend wholeheartedly to all fan of urban fantasy and to everyone who wants a really good book to enjoy.  So if you haven’t started the series yet don’t hesitate. You can find my review of book 1 here.

Bonjour à tous

Aujourd'hui est un jour un peu spécial je vais vous donner mon avis sur un livre " River Road" qui ne sera publié qu'en Novembre ( 13 novembre version US, 27 novembre pour la version UK). Je tenais à vous en faire part avec un peu d'avance car ce livre est vraiment excellent donc à pré commander sans attendre mais également car pour encore une poignée de jour seulement vous pouvez profiter d'une histoire courte intitulée " Chenoire" qui se déroule juste avant ce tome et peut tout à fait être lue sans aucune connaissance de l'univers car elle concerne un personnage qui n’apparaît pas avant River Road. C'est un véritable cadeau que l'auteur nous fait donc après avoir lu cet avis, jetez vous sur Chenoire  ( et ensuite vous ne résisterez vraiment plus à l'envie d'acheter ce livre ainsi que Royal Street Le premier volume)

Un autre détail important à savoir: la région de Plaquemines Parish - et environs- dans laquelle est située cette histoire a été touchée par une pollution pétrolière il y a peu, nouvelle catastrophe qui s'ajoute aux nombreuses tempêtes et ouragans qui l'ont déjà affectée. En réponse à cette catastrophe Suzanne Johnson reversera un pourcentage sur les ventes de "River Road" à un fond de soutien à la réhabilitation de la région. Vous ferez donc une bonne action en pré commandant dès aujourd'hui ce livre!

De nouvelles espèces de «  L’Autre Côté (Beyond) » ont emménagé  en Louisiane après que l’ouragan ait détruits les frontières entre les mondes, et il incombe à la sentinelle magicienne Drusilla Jaco et son équipier Alex Warin, de maintenir ces créatures pacifiques et les humains ignorants de leur existence/ Mais une guerre est sur le point d’éclater entre 2 clan de sirènes Cajun à Plaquemines Parish, and dans les marécages, DJ apprends alors qu’il y a plus inquiétant que des hommes sirènes et la menace d’un changeforme alligator.

Des magiciens sont assassinés et quelque chose- ou quelqu’un- venant de «  l’Autre –Côté » empoisonne les eaux du célèbre Mississippi, menaçant les humains qui vivent et travaille le long de la rivière. DJ et Alex doivent déterminer quelle source surnaturelle contamine l’eau et qui -ou quoi- extermine les magiciens. Est-ce  un homme sirène mécontent, la nymphe coquine ou une toute autre créature ? Après tout, le prétendant non-mort de DJ, le pirate Jean Lafitte n’est pas à l’après d’un corps ou deux

C’est avec tout sauf un voyage tranquille sur le Bayou qui attend les Sentinelles de La Nouvelle Orléans.

         Fabuleux. Cela excède toutes mes attentes les plus folles; habitué au style d’écriture de l’auteur, je n’ai encore jamais été déçue par Suzanne Johnson, de ce fait j’attendais avec impatiente ce livre. Toutefois, le tome 1 « Royal Street » était déjà très bien écrit et l’histoire plus qu’intéressante et je pensais que le tome 2 serait du même calibre : a très bon livre. Grosse erreur « River Road » est même mieux que cela, un livre qu’il faut à tout fan d’urban fantasy digne de ce nom.

L’histoire de ce tome prend place 3ans après les évènements contés dans « Royal Street », DJ est toujours la Sentinelle chargée de la Nouvelle Orléans avec Alex comme partenaire puisque les anciens hésitent encore à lui confier cette charge en solo. Leur relation s’est apaisée un peu et ils se font désormais confiance sans regretter leur collaboration forcée.

On découvre une Dj plus responsable et beaucoup moins impulsive qu’avant. Elle a appris de ses erreurs- ou parfois elle essaie encore- et fait son travail de son mieux. Encore blessée par la perte de Gerry, DJ est encore effrayée à la simple idée de perdre quelqu’un  d’autre ou de voir quelqu’un qu’elle apprécie blessé ou la laisser. C’est une des raison pour laquelle elle fait de son mieux pour tenter de rester professionnelle avec Alex et pour laquelle lorsque elle sait faire quelque chose qui risquerait de le mettre en difficulté face à la hiérarchie elle le maintient dans l’ignorance jusqu’après coup.

Elle a également plus conscience de la réalité du monde auteur d’elle et étant moins naïve elle peut désormais, très discrètement évidemment, remettre en questions les anciens et leurs systèmes. (Qui n’en aurait pas assez d’Hoffman et de son incompétence et rudesse ?). D’autre part, elle emploie finalement ses propres talents et dons maintenant qu’elle a accepté sa différence et son héritage.

Elle a toujours son animal de compagnie – ou plus exactement son petit maître- Sebastian petit chose très amusante et je comprends très bien ce qu’elle ressent lorsqu’il lui fait les yeux meurtriers…le mien agit de manière plus amicale mais il reste à moitié siamois et je ne connais ce regard que trop bien *brrrr*

Côté cœur, c’est beaucoup plus compliqué et mouvementé. Peu important combien elle le nie, elle est attirée par Alex, elle pense avoir cela sous contrôle jusqu’à ce qu’il décide d’agir de manière un peu plus explicite sans se soucier de la compétition. Car de la compétition il y en a : pour commencer il y a Jake, cousin d’Alex, après avoir coupé tout contact pendant presque 3ans la blâmant pour ce qui est survenu de « L’autre Côté » (voir Royal Street) il revient à l’assaut ayant toujours des sentiments pour elle et il n’hésite pas à le lui dire, le lui montrer et lui donne un rendez-vous galant. Ensuite il y a Jean Lafitte, figure historique immortelle,  très attirant et malin qui flirte avec elle depuis le premier jour. Pas sur qu’il soit sincère mais il ne la laisse pas indifférent. Pour une fille qui était principalement seule, cela fait beaucoup en peu de temps.

Je dois admettre que j’apprécie vraiment le personnage de Jean Lafitte. Il est marrant, intelligent et il sait ce qu’il veut – bon peut-être pas en ce qui concerne DJ mais c’est l’exception- son honneur est important et il est très déterminé et débrouillard.  Il ne doit pas être sous estimé. J’aime sa relation avec DJ même si Alex est aussi pas mal pour elle.

Dans ce tome, Alex essaie de faire comprendre à DJ ses sentiments mais c’est loin d’être une tâche aisée. Il agit comme un alpha très protecteur avec elle. Possessif même quand cela a attrait à Jake et Jean mais il est capable de voir par delà  pour le bien de l’enquête et la sécurité de DJ. Il était vraiment marrant aussi mais je ne peux pas vous en dire plus si vous voulez garder la surprise sachez jusque que vous risquez de lire aux larmes à un certain passage (ou 2).

L’ histoire en elle-même est excellente, on y retrouve de l’action, du suspense et de l’humour le tout parfaitement dosé avec une touche de romance pour faire battre notre petit cœur et une légère pincée dramatique pour nous laisser sur nos gardes. L’enquête ici est originale et vraiment captivante, Suzanne est parvenue à me surprendre avec plusieurs rebondissements et je ne m’attendais pas du tout au dénouement tel qu’elle l’a imaginé.  (Même si j’ai ma petite idée sur Rand) .L’humour état bienvenu et ne portait pas du tout atteinte à la gravité du problème sur lequel portait l’enquête…j’ai tellement rit avec ce livre (Sebastian shooté à la magie, le repas de famille tellement redouté) et à la fin mes larmes ont beaucoup coulés  tout au long du livre qu’elle soit produite par l’humour ou l’émotion (certaines descriptions de l’après Katrina sont chargée émotionnellement, de même lorsque DJ pense à Gerry ou s’interroge sur Jake ) c’est tellement bien écrit qu’il est impossible de rester de marble.

Un autre bonus de ce tome est qu’on y rencontre de nouvelles créatures : les hommes sirènes ( là ce n’est pas tout à fait nouveau si vous avez lu la nouvelle « Chenoire », si ce n’est pas le cas profiter en elle reste disponible pour quelque jours encore). Rene est un personnage intéressant et j’espère qu’on le retrouvera encore. Les nymphes (leur travail/couverture va vous faire sourire) et enfin on fait la connaissance d’un elfe, qui s’affiche bien comme tel, un ancien très important dans leur hiérarchie et loin d’être amical.  Cela nous promet donc bien des aventures et de l’action dans le future (Jean était tellement protecteur et loyal hum il gagne des points^^)

J’ai vraiment apprécié également les descriptions des marécages et environs ainsi que celle de l’ancienne Nouvelle Orléans, on ressent vraiment la passion que Suzanne à pour ces endroits et c’est communicatif, cela m’a vraiment donné envie d’en apprendre plus.

Suzanne Johnson est tout doucement en train de devenir un auteur incontournable de l’urban fantasy avec un livre tel que celui-ci.

A recommander sans aucune hésitation à tous les fans d’urban fantasy et à tous ceux qui veulent apprécier un très bon livre. Si vous n’avez pas encore commencé la série, n’hésitez plus.

Et n’oubliez pas un pourcentage de chaque livre précommandé ou commandé ira à un fond de protection qui aide cette région qui a souffre d’une pollution pétrolière en plus de tout ce qu’elle a déjà subis ; une bonne action que nous pouvons faire même en tant que simple humains sans magie. Un magifique cadeau pour Noel ou nouvel an (c’est sur ma liste, tout en haut, en tout cas – j’aimerais la version US et UK)

Chenoire ( Sentinels of New Orleans 1.5) by Suzanne Johnson

Today being the day for the free novella, i really wanted to make a bit of promotion for the one by Suzanne Johnson, a favorite author of mine.
Chenoire is the story of Rene one of the mermen brothers DJ will meet in "River Road" second book off the Sentinels of New Orleans and it was done with all her love for Louisiana.

Why i decided to give you a short review of it today? Simply because it's a fee story that is available for a very limited time and i wanted to give you the opportunity to discover it and the author behind it.  Don't worry even if you haven't read the first book of the series Roayal Street, you really can enjoy Chenoire so after reading this small post click on the link provided and read this novella please.

Recovering from the loss of her twin sister, Grace Sims throws herself into her work, traveling deep into the dangerous waters of the bayou to document the impact recent oil spills have had on the native wildlife. In need of a guide, she gets more than she bargained for in Rene Delachaise.

The last thing Rene needs is to have to watch our for some city slicker, but that’s just what he’s been ordered to do by his father and clan leader. But what should have been a simple trip down the bayou suddenly turns deadly, and Rene finds himself having to reveal more than the hideouts of local fauna. A world of clans and rituals, strength and magic, weregators and mermen, and maybe even love awaits Grace, if she can survive the day...

My opinion:

          Suzanne Johnson is a kind author but also a really engaged one, she loves Louisiana and New Orleans and when a calamity arises she acts in her way because she respects those inhabitants. It’s something that should be said and in buying River Road you can help too. But before that (however you can already pre order it of course^^) she wanted to offer a treat to her readers, because we count too, and thus she put a small novella on her blog for a short time and for Halloween she accepted that Heroes and Heartbreakers put this small novella online again but you have only until November to savour it if you did not get the opportunity to read it before.

And what a treat it is ^^, the only “bémol” is that’s really short but that put aside Chenoire is wonderfully written and a really good novella. It’s a story about acceptance, trust and the need to move forward with also humour and some fun parts.  I can’t tell you a lot of things if I want to avoid spoiler but I can tell you that you don’t need to have read “Royal Street “(first book of the series) to understand the novella it’s perfect as a stand alone you will just want more because it gives us a good idea of the universe and the writing style of Suzanne.

I loved to have a bit of the Rene background since he will play a major role in River Road.

So take 5 minutes and go to read it please you won’t be disappointed.
