Violet Chaser ( Episodes 1-6) by Erica Reeder

Hello to all,

I'm sorry to have disappeared for a few days but as perhaps know i'm taking care of my ailing mother and that's time consuming...when you had the fact i caught a bad virus and that after 3weeks i still haven't won you can imagine how little free time i had. To be honest you could probably have gotten this review a few days ago ...i had written it....but with the strong  fever i clicked on delete instead of save^^;;; yes i was that bad. I'm a bit better now though so time to attempt getting back on track and it's with please that i introduce you to Violet Chaser written by Erica Reeder

Happy reading!

Description from goodreads :

Not everyone wants to grow up to be a faerie princess.

Me in particular. Of course, the bad news is I actually am one. Or at least I used to be. As soon as I realized I was better at throwing punches than kissing babies, I split. I ran so far I thought that life would never find me. And it didn’t until a faerie was murdered in New York City. The last thing I want is to be dragged back into that hell, but if I don’t find answers about who is killing faeries, my entire race could be in jeopardy.

Then just when I think things can’t get any worse, I meet the one man who could ruin everything. He’s delicious, intense, and has these blue eyes that make me forget my name. Oh, did I mention he’s a vampire? Yeah, as far as faeries go, it doesn’t get more deadly than vampires. So why can’t I seem to stay away from him?

I’m Cy Vanguard. Bounty Hunter. Faerie Princess. Call me what you want. But if you’re the one who murdered that faerie, you better hope you’re running when I find you.

My opinion:
It's my first attempt at this author writing and i really loved it so i hope it won't be the last...Cy is a faery but an unconventional one, she has no wings ( that part has become common as a way to protect themselves from the vampires), she is independent and she doesn't mind using her power in a fight......oh faeries can fight , they are taught  martial art but using their natural power for that is forbidden.

For all these reasons and to flew her mother Cy is living in our world being a bounty hunter, she must hide her true nature but she has friends and she is quite happy until she find an older fae  lost in our world and she step in to help him meaning coming back to faery land and from there all go wrong.
Discovering that more faeries are in the real world against faery law and that some are killed she is charged to find the culprit....

While on that search she meets Sven in a bar and the attraction is immediate... the only problem is that he is part of her natural ennemies and she can't resist him but the ennemies are not always those we are taught would be.

Really i loved the story, we can see the bad side of fae ( really  they make me more afraid than vampire because from vampire you expect it but fearies even with their own....a nightmare) and the action is fast paced, i was surprised that it took so long to Cy to realize what Sven was though. Kittie is really a character i want to see more of as well as it brings humour as well . I love how loyal Cy is even when in mortal danger she think of others and with her upbringing that 's something  she has become by herself alone.

The only detail that didn't make this book perfect was that it was first released as a serial and it cut the story and reading too often but thankfully the author decided that next book wouldn't be in a serial form so it should only get better

Score:  4,5/5

The Hunter’s Moon ( Windham werewolves 1) by Shawntelle Madison

Hello to all!

The week didn't go as planned at all  so while i joined Tressa read- a-thon i'm still  far behind my goals as i just finished one book for it and while i'm working on the review you will get soon i decided to tell you about what i had read just before.

Serials have become quite numerous and  it doesn't fit well with the kind of reader i am ( after all i hate cliffhanger so much among other things).
However  i do admit that when we can get the first episodes free it can help us make discoveries we would perhaps have missed otherwise. It's how i came accross this series that i hope to continue one day

So without more delay, here is my opinion on The Hunter's moon from Shawntelle Madison

Happy Reading!

Short description from goodreads :

This is the first story in the Windham Werewolves series. Episodes will be released once per month. This is not a standalone story.

Kaden will do anything to protect his pack, including saving a dying werewolf hunter. But Cynthia would rather take him down than become his mate.

My opinion:
I really dislike this new serial trend because one episode only isn’t enough, in most case, to get a real opinion on a story. Now this first episode really made me want for more, it sounds really promising but at the same time I’m missing too much info, character’s background to fully enjoy it.
We get a universe like ours but where werewolves are known and hunted like monsters….

Kaden is an alpha, a doctor too, and he is hell bent on protecting is pack. To reach that goal he made a bargain with an hunter to save his dying sister in exchange for such protection … however we ignore in what form: an alliance, information that’s left to be discovered. I really liked Kaden , we can feel his compassion and need to protect, he is really an attentive doctor but often to be able to study and practise he had to hide his nature.

Cynthia is dying from a cancer, before that she was a talented wolf hunter with her brother…since little she has been taught that werewolves were monsters, eating people and other things by her parents so she never questioned that teaching. When she wakes up in a cabin with an werewolf her first instinct is to try to kill him….slowly she learns that her brother is being her presence there but still she doubts Kaden’s intentions and doesn’t make it easy for him.
I’m still not sure what to think of her….. I hate the fact she did never try to question what she was told, and it doesn’t help that I don’t really understand the hunters’ structure yet. So far we gather that they are organised in clan with some freelances but what are the clan really ( extended family? Group of people without blood link, what about the hierarchy etc)… She does seem worried because if her presence was to be known by other hunters she would be hunted as well….

This first episode is short but it’s evident the author wanted to catch the reader’s interest which is working but only if the rest of the story answer those questions…. So far we have a little idea of what hunters believe werewolves to be to nothing on the real habits of werewolves (safe that they can change without the moon)
The relationship moves up a little too quickly for my taste as well but I understand it as being part of the serial conditions.

Do I want to read more? Yes definitively but I’m really relieved that the complete story exists in print already because no more serial for me for a time, it’s too frustrating. The print book is only available on amazon though so not that easily easy for me to obtain but I do have hope for the future as I really want to learn more about this universe and I like the author’s writing style

Score:  3,5/5

Lovely, Dark, and Deep ( the Collectors 1) by Susannah Sandlin

hello to all!

Time is really flying, in less than one month it will be my birthday, a little after the " Carnaval" and of course there will also be a lot of new releases i'm dying to get my hands on.

Thankfully it also means that the wait has finally come to an end today was realeased the last episode of the serial " Lovely, Dark and Deep" by Susannah Sandlin.....now just a few months of patience to get the paperback but you can already preoder it...because later this year we get the second installment of this series!!! YES, hard to tell you how excited i am with this year program but first thing first, here is my opinion on  this new story, first in a new series, it will be short because want to avoid spoilers...

And if like me you love discovering the little history behind a book, you can discover who inspired the characters this time here, if you are like it it could steal you some tears.

 happy Reading

"From award-winning author Susannah Sandlin comes a heart-pounding romantic thriller that pits a quick-witted scientist and a scarred ex–combat diver against a ruthless billionaire treasure hunter with ties to the White House....

When biologist Gillian Campbell makes an offhand comment about a family curse during a TV interview, she has no idea what her words will set in motion. Within days, Gillian finds herself at the mercy of a member of the C7, a secretive international group of power brokers with a dangerous game: competing to find the world’s most elusive treasures, no matter the cost, in money or in lives. To save her family, Gillian teams up with Shane Burke, a former elite diver who’s lost his way, navigating the brutal 'death coast' of the North Atlantic to find what the collector seeks: the legendary Ruby Cross of the Knights Templar, stolen by Gillian’s ancestor and lost at sea four hundred years ago."

My opinion:
Lovely! The title says it all in fact there are dark moments, some angsty ones and as a whole it’s more than a lovely reads^^. Susannah did succeed in my opinion at this attempt at the thriller genre and I was hooked right at the start.

As always the author is a master at descriptions you really fell like you right next to Gillian and Shane as you see by their eyes and feel their fears and frustration…  the psychological building of the characters is really essential in this story since the villain uses their weakness against them and Susannah really knows what she is doing because you  immediately fell like you are in their shoes and you understand how deep their guilt goes…you want to shake them sometimes and at others just to hug them with promise it will get better. They are really realistic, like you could meet them at the street corner.
The tension is really high at some point , The villains are making your skin crawl and biting your nails, but then there are also time for breath thanks to the little touch of humour with Shane ‘s best friend taste in music and of course.. TANK, the dog, so funny ^^ and protective^^  Shane ‘s nightmare.

If you love investigation, the idea of treasure with a good touch of romance spiced with steamy scene this book is right you alley! A must read

Spotlight: Lovely, Dark, and Deep by Susannah Sandlin

Hello to all!!

I was so deep in my reading that i nearly forgot to let you know about one of the book i have on my radar since i learned of its existence. As many of you probably know by now i'm  quite a fan of Suzanne Johnson who also writes under the name " Susannah Sandlin".

After writing in the urban fantasy genre ( The Sentinels of New Orleans series), the paranormal romance (The penton Legacy series) , and the thriller paranormal romance ( Storm Force), that talented author is now trying her hand in a Thriller, romantic suspense with is titled "Lovely, Dark, and Deep" which could become the first in a new series called "The Collectors" and it release tomorrow!!

Now what i am spolighting this today? For your benefit of course because by acting now you can save some money.

This novel will first be released as a serial on Kindle ( or for those who can use the free application on your computer, tablet)...each week you get one episode ( around 40pages) that will download automatically..and that for 8weeks since there will be 8episodes in total... Now here is the trick, if you pre order it now ( you have a few hours left^^ hurry pre orders help authors) or buy it early you will only pay 1,99dollars if you are in the US ( sadly serials are not available in every country or when it is not at the same price so check for this one).... yes 1,99 dollars for the whole book.... you pay once and you receive all the past ( if it's not a pre order) and future episodes when they release.

Now i know some of you are not fan of serial....i'm not in most case either but this one is really worth the wait and even if you don't want to read it before you got all the episodes if you buy it now you have it at the reduced price. That's quite a bargain.

As for the fan of print books like i'm, fear not ^^ after the last episode is released in digital we will get a print edition and the price of the digital version will go up of course. I can't wait to add this one on my shelves.

Really for having read the beginning i can tell you it promise to be excellent so if you love suspense and thriller with a touch of romance you must get this book in digital or print but you must have it.

So what are you waiting for? You can get it here and if you want more info you can check Susannah's Website  .  Remember the first episode is scheduled to be released tomorrow ( 30th)

Not convinced yet? Here comes the summary to entice you further^^

Storm Force episode 7 by Susannah Sandlin ( review and discussion)

Hi!! Happy First of May!

Welcome to our weekly Storm force review and discussion! Episode 7 is now released so only two more weeks before the grand finale! Hurry to get the kindle edition for only 1,99 dollars; later it will be too late and it’s really a book you should read. Print edition will be available on 18th June

For more info on Susannah and her books you can check her blog HERE
To buy Storm Force on amazon click on Storm Force serial

Story:
Episode 7: The Colonel decides to take control of the situation….unfortunately like often the big boss knows nothing about the situation and take unrealistic decision endangering their team…Kell must confront Michael alone while his teammates are sent to different locations…if the shifters agree to obey that is.

My opinion:
I can’t believe how angry I was while reading this episode… Mori still think she should act alone against Michael in hope to protect Kell…like she hasn’t learnt from her mistakes last time. Fortunately, Robin is rubbing off on her ^^ shifters women will become independent and determined. They don’t want to be left behind when they can fight…. I’m loving Robin more and more. And I’m sure Archer would have sided with them too. Nik is also too “ trained” to disobey but I was surprised to see him open himself to Mori and reveal his talents to her…

Then Kell can be so stupid… he knows Michael Benedict, he has the info and still follow blindly the orders…arf I wanted to slap him, to shake him. Even more after what he told Archer, he now bows in front of the colonel…he is brainwashed…his training really did him worse than good. The colonel doesn’t take the risks into account and could loose his team , I just hope he will regret and give them more liberty in the future.

Only two more episodes, I’m really curious about what  Susannah will reveal next and I do want more of Archer!! So I do recommend this book to you and I will wait with impatience for the next episode ( because yes there was a cliffhanger but I didn’t feel it was an hard one… not like the one of chapter 4 at least I guess after such an hard one I became stronger^^)

Score:  5/5

Discussion:

1)       Do you think people who give orders ( in a “ normal” job  or in military) should have been first doing the lambda jobs, to learn the reality of it before earning their place in the deciding ranks?
2)       What do you think about serials ( books released in several episodes)? Have you tried some? Is  Storm force your first try?

Storm Force Episode 4 by Susannah Sandlin ( review and discussion)

Hi!

Welcome to my review/discussion post about the new episode of Sorm Force by Susannah Sandlin. The story is moving fast and will keep you edgy this week but Susannah promised us even more in an interview she did last week ( you can find the link on her blog) so join us in experiencing this paranormal  romantic thriller released as a serial.
I will first give you my opinion on the new episode , trying to avoid spoiler which is becoming harder and harder ^^;;, then we have the questions that can be answered even without having read the book, a little difference is that this time i will start the dicussion a little.

So First i will remind you that the kindle price is only 1,99 dollars at the moment and with that you will get all the episodes already released and the new one as soon as it is without additional cost.  With the newest schedule it means the book will be completed in May but for the print edition, and audo etc you will have to wait until July when it will be released  and at that time the kindle price will also go up so let you be tempted.

For more info on Susannah and her books you can check her blog HERE

Story:
Episode 4: Kell and Mori are on the run and they must find a secure place to speak.  It’s time for the Ranger to see where his loyalties lie and who he can trust. He is glad for his teammates’ support despite the strange circumstances. Mori couldn’t imagine Kell keeping secret from her as she is doing, with her life on the line she wants to trust him but he is only human. In hope to protect him, she decide to act alone, never imagining it could get worse than her worst nightmare

My opinion:
I loved this chapter that kept me quite anxious for the characters, one moment I was grinning the next I wanted to cry, to slap some sense in Mori. This chapter was really a storm for my feelings and I really couldn’t guess what to expect next. The tension is also reaching some tops.
Kell doesn’t really know why he is taking all these risks to help Mori but he feels he must do something. Conscious of the risks, he doesn’t want to include his team but his partners don’t leave him any choice, they are a team even in the worst moment. Kell didn’t think, Robin could act like that and he is surprised but happy of discovering the loyalty his team is showing.  However, the biggest problem at the moment is to keep Mori from fleeing from him and to get some info from her. He wants her to trust him and to trust her but he knows that the secrets he kept from her can be an hindrance to achieve that goal and the secrets she is keeping are not helping.

When Mori discovers that Kell lied or at least kept secrets from her she is hurt but having done the same she can’t really blame him. Now she wants the truths and along the way she must recognise some of her feelings and expectations she was blinding herself to.  Destabilised, she reveals some things to Kell but don’t open completely, seeing hurting she think she can do better alone but she never really knew Michael and didn’t think he could be as bad as he start to reveal himself to be. I didn’t understand how she could go back to him after he hit her… really he is evil, he showed it in his office and she believe she can  do something…. She never thought he could be manipulating everything…. I so wanted to slap her for not trusting Kell. She knew he has a team but she didn’t wait to see if it was a special one, if they would have enough power to help her no she just decided to protect being the stronger of the two… that’s an alpha attitude same as Kell wanting to protect her as well as his team…I really don’t see Michael as a alpha just a psycho maniac evil -_- .

This episode is terribly well written as we are deep in the romantic thriller part. I really recommend you try this serial

Score:  5/5

Discussion:

1)       Could you sacrifice your happiness in the name of some family obligations? Do you think it’s something positive sometimes or never to be done?
“ I don’t think about obligations as big as the one Mori has but we are all confronted to things we have to do or imposed to do that don’t make us happy. I remember as a child my father imposed me to keep contact with my godmother meaning that around twice a year we had to go to visit them and I had to accompany them despite my protest. My father thought he was doing well but those moments were really hard for me with the little hateful remark and such .. when I was back home I was really in a bad shape, crying, angry and I isolated myself. It didn’t make me happy at all but it was for family and it was imposed since I was little… as soon as I was old enough for my father to accept my decision, which never changed, I stopped going.
Another time, when I was older my father started to be quite ill and I decided to arrange my study schedule to have more time at home then when the situation got worse I put my studies on hold. My father didn’t ask for this, quite the opposite, but I felt like I had to so I could give more time to my father and mother. I could do the shopping so she could stay with him, I prepared the meal, took care of the house when she was visiting him at the hospital etc…
In comparison the moment at my godmother house were not as difficult or as painful for me as seeing my father in that state but the difference is that for the second I choose to do it and now I’m happy I could have at least helped a little (even if that time my happiness was non existent and my life like suspended) So for my part I don’t think imposing it it’s fair or can have positive result, when it’s your decision it can be different but we all deserve happiness. “
2)       In a relationship, can the people keep secrets from each other? Are all truths good to say?
“ … I think there is a difference between telling lies and keeping secret…. I don’t know if the second is really better but sometimes you need the trust before sharing the secret…”

So what do you think? Did you decide to buy the kindle since the serial has started? Don't hesitate to comment and participate with us.

until next week for Episode 5

Storm Force Episode3 by Susannah Sandlin (review and discussion)

Hi!

So yesterday was the release of the third episode of  Storm Force by Susannah Sandlin thanks to the publisher who decided to do a weekly release intead of one every two weeks. Since it's becoming even more addictive than it was , i'm really happy about this decision^^

I will try to do share my opinion of it with you each week ,however after thinking about it this post will be scheduled on Wednesday . I think it's better since the release can happen anytime on Tuesday and for those who follow i want to let them have some time to enjoy it before entering a discussion^^. And like last time, even if you are not reading the book as of yet don't hesitate to participate in the discussion with the questions you feel safe to answer and you can also go back to precedent dicussions too

               Story:
Episode3: While Kell is set on obeying orders even f they clash with his moral code, Mori starting to think about give up under the threats.  However Michael is really determined and acts to reduce Mori’s possibilities of action, even if the team knows now that shifters have aligned with the opposite camp, the reasons and their identity is still unknown. Kell only has a few minutes to make his choice.

My opinion:
I really can’t wait until next instalment, the tension is going up with each release and my dislike of Michael is proportional to my appreciation of Kell and his team.  I guess the only thing that bothered me a little was how far Kell was ready to go to follow orders even more when he was so conflicted about it. It must be so hard for him but Susannah Managed some twist to make it happens differently in a way that had all my preference even if Mori’s feelings of powerlessness were the decisive factor.

I really appreciated to see how alpha Kell can be when he goes all protective, it’s really cute and not really something I expecting or at least not so strongly he is marking points^^. I do also appreciate to see how his team is reacting as a group I mean they went to save gator and it’s something some wouldn’t thought of it ( when I was reading the part where the danger was, I was so afraid the “ugly” was going to take revenge on poor Gator, really stressed^^;;;)

I enjoy to see the characters starting to act more for themselves than for duty and taking risk for that even if it’s just for a little instant. Now we will have to see how the secrets will mix with that but the suspense and tension is really moving up to several levels higher and I’m becoming more and more immersed in the story so can’t wait for episode 4;even more that episode 3 does have a big cliffhanger ( though keep in mind that it’s a serial, not the book  yet)

Score:  4,5/5

Disclaimer: Source: a copy in exchange for an honest review, no other compensation was received. All Opinions are my own

Discussion:

1)       How far would you go to follow order? To please your superior? And to save someone?
2)       Should species in danger protected depending on their “cuteness”?  What can be done for the species more “ ugly” or less liked?  ( I mean some spider or snake for example  I wouldn’t want to pet them but I do understand they are useful ( still keep them far away from me!) ^^;;)

Storm Force ( Omega Force 1) by Susannah Sandlin

Hello to all,

Today is little special because it's not a book review but a little promotion for an author you know i adore and the release of the spin off of “The Penton Legacy” series which  was one of my recent favourite paranormal romance.

So this is the big day for Storm Force or to be more precise for the first instalment of this book because yes it will be a serial before being released as a normal print book. It’s now that it could be interesting for you because if you order the kindle now you will only pay 1,99 dollars ( if you are in the US, from outside the US the price can vary if it's available for you) for the whole book. You will get the first part now then, each time a new instalment is released you will get it without additional charge. In the end the kindle price will be 1,99 for you but only now…once the book is finished the price will go up.

So for once, being impatient and not wanting to wait the final release in July would be an advantage. (Part of me is jealous but honestly I still prefer to have the print book and I already made some room of my shelves just for it) Believe me for such a small price you shouldn’t hesitate to buy it, Susannah’s books never disappointed me and I’m really happy she offers us a new one like that.
It’s also a first experience for her to write this serial so she would be really happy to have interaction with the readers while her work is still in progress so jump on this opportunity.

 I can’t afford you a review at the moment but if I can’t review the serial as it goes or part of it then when I get the final book I will make one, so you will get a review on what and when that’s the question^^;

Anyway I will give you the info available at the moment so it’s the first book of  a series that take place is the same universe as the Penton Legacy series yes but you won’t see our dear vampires at all. This time we concentrate on human and shifters (different kinds). As for the genre it’s a mix of paranormal romance and thriller so you can expect action, suspense, adventure and romance (if you find some excerpts you will see that you can add humour to the list).
If you follow the serial you will get 4 chapters every two weeks to keep you on edge and wanting more ^^.
The release date for the complete kindle edition, the audiobook and the print book is July 9th (so far away ç_ç)

A rapid look at the cover and the summary to give you even more reason to go immediately buy it from amazon?

Short description from goodreads :
As leader of the elite counter-terrorism team Omega Force, former army ranger Jack “Kell” Kellison is always focused on getting the job done. So when a Houston high-rise is bombed and the governor killed or missing, Kell’s mission is clear: infiltrate the group suspected of the bombing and neutralize the threat by any means necessary. But once Kell meets beautiful chief suspect Mori Chastaine, he realizes there’s more to this case than meets the eye. And more to Mori than any man—any human man—could imagine.

Mori Chastaine is running out of options. Suspected for a crime she didn’t commit, forced into a marriage she doesn’t want, she sees no escape—until Kell walks through her door. A lifetime hiding her true nature warns her Kell might not be who he seems. But he could be the only one able to help save more innocent humans from becoming pawns in an ancient paranormal power play. If Mori reveals her secret, will Kell join her fight? Or will she become his next target?

NOTE: To be released first as a Kindle Serial beginning March 19, 2013. Print and audio and full digital editions to be released on July 9, 2013.

So What are you waiting for?

So the book is tempting no? What do you think? Will you get the serial ( if you can have it in your country) or you prefer to wait for the book ? Have you already read a serial? Is is a good concept?
