Pure (Covenant 2) by Jennifer L . Armentrout

Hello to all,

i didn't know if i was going to manage to finish another book and to write a last review for this year but participating in the Jennifer L Armentrout read along event i couldn't miss to share with you my opinion on book 2 of the covenant series, my favorite so far with the title " Pure".

Since the book is important, it's a bit difficult to write without spoilers so i'm sorry in advance if it's short and not a deep review but i prefer to let you the pleasure to discover this book by yourself  and experiment all the contrary feelings i'm sure you will feel. A really good book but it's better if you read Halfblood first.

Happy Reading and Happy new Year!

Short description from goodreads :

There is need. And then there is Fate

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

My opinion:
Jennifer L Armentrout knows how to keep us on edge, Pure is an excellent addition to the covenant series. The tension is building up, some things are revealed but a lot are still unknown.
I was so sad for Caleb, and like Alex I would like if Piperi was more straight forward because at the moment I can’t tell who is lust an who is love…it’s even harder now. Aiden is still so *argg * he wants to act with honor great but in the same time he is hurting and confusing Alex more than ever. On the contrary Seth is trying to be a gentleman to help her BUT he is also the only one who is quite honest with his feeling, he does tell her  he isn’t in love, interested yes but when she asks him he answers not a maybe, I can’t tell, etc like Aiden.

The part with the council was for me too predictable but I still enjoyed how it turned out and I hope we will see more of “ brown eyes “ too, part of me wanted Alex to take him and the young one with her^^;; . I’m really suspicious of Leon and the thanathos sect makes me uncomfortable, as soon as they arrived at the council I was afraid to guess what was happening.

It’s hard for me to tell you all I thought without any spoilers let just said it’s becoming harder to choose between Aiden and Seth as they both act to protect Alex in their own way. The things is , I hated the way the pures controlled everything but now I hate them even more … arrogant and stupid, they don’t hesitate to break their own rules if it’s in their advantage…. I really hope the series will finish with a happy end but I’m getting afraid it won’t be the case.

To recommend to all fans of Jennifer Armentrout and the covenant series. I will be anxiously waiting for my copy of Deity and appolyon

Short description from goodreads :

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My opinion:
The description is really a good summary but let’s be honest until the end of the book I was quite confused about a lot of things. It’s not that I don’t like the book now but it’s far from my favourite and I hope Pure will be better.  I so enjoyed Obsidian, her other series, that I didn’t think I could be disappointed and the result is that I’m.
I found really difficult to identify myself to Alex. I have some difficulties to admit that she is so happy to return from where her mother tried to save her. Yes for her its means familiarity but also so many risks. She is too wild for me and I only started to appreciate her more nearly the end of the book when she tries to save her friend before that she was just too immature and keeping all her emotions to herself.

I also understand more now why the readers are for Aiden or Seth and so fierce about it. We are learning more about Aiden’s past and personality here than Seth who stays mysterious and I can say I really approve of one. Aiden is great yes, cute and seems to care for her but he doesn’t fight for her and I find that sad. Seth is arrogant, proud but he also gives her a choice and takes risks for her…so both have reasons and faults. The plot is very complex and I guess I won’t be happy before the last book when everything I hope will become clear. At the moment I find Alex to be only a tool she is not doing a lot against that, however she is also demonstrating a strong will and I hope the bit of freedom she had will help her to fight for what she wants not for what she is told to.

The writing style is still really good and enjoyable so a lot of readers of young adult book who love action, love triangle, paranormal and fantasy will be more than happy with this series.

Daimon ( Covenant 0.5) By Jennifer L. Armentrout

Hello to all,

Today i will share with you a short review (really short) about Daimon, the prequel to the Covenant series by Jennifer L Armentrout. I will try to read and review the other books of the series but i'm not making any promise. This month will mostly be about erotic romance ( at first in French but i will soon start reading some in english too) and i was accepted in an additionnal cursus so i have a lot more works and less free time but i will do my best, just don't expect 20 reviews this month ( October was really special^^)

So to start with the beginning here come Daimon ( if you don't have the print book you can have a free ebook on the editor's website)

Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Publication: 2011
ISBN: 0983157251
Genre: YA, paranormal romance
Violence: strong

Short description from goodreads :

For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.

According to her mother, that’s a good thing.

But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return—the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill.

The daimons have found her.

My opinion:

This prologue to the Covenant series is interesting but having read it first I got the impression I was missing information to really understand the story. Of course this novella is done to complete the story and to introduce us to it but I would have loved more, because when you are reading it with having read half-blood before Alex seems quite stupid for example. I mean, she is on the run with her mother but she doesn’t question it, she even misses the place her mother saved her from and even worse as soon as she is “free” she tries to go back there. Likes if all her mother had done was for nothing….and from what she is telling us of this place it’s also difficult to understand why she would want to go back.

Now the writing style is really good and it left you wanting more there is a lot of action and you are intrigued to learn more. You are immediately immersed in the action while following Alex and you get the need to understand her, she is showing some strengths while trying to survive and its’ promising.   I enjoy Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing style even if it’s not my favourite series of her I appreciated to discover this new universe and I will be reading more about it without a doubt.
