Dead Radiance (Valkyrie1) by T.G. Ayer

Hello to all,

i will be quick because i'm super busy but first i wanted to apologies for posting so late, my hands didn't improve so i was delayed but the worse came yesterday. My mother ghad to go the emergencies because she couldn't stand up or walk anymore...after a lot of panic , stress and wait we still don't know the reason because she will need a scanner and it couldn't be scheduled before monday ( or to be precise monday they will tell us when it will take place, really soon i hope).

Anyway as you can undestand she is my top priority right now so less reading, less time to comment etc and i absolutely don't know how long it can last. i will do my best to post at least once a week but i will see what i manage to do. Thanks for your understanding

Short description from goodreads :

Bryn Halbrook had always seen the glow. But it is only when her best friend dies that she discovers the meaning of those beautiful golden auras — Death. Alone, lost in the foster system, she struggles to understand who she is and why she was cursed with the ability to see the soon-to-be-dead.

The new foster kid, Aidan, isn’t helping any. Mr. Perfect seems to fit in no matter what, making her feel even more pathetic. But when his affections turn to her, Bryn finds him hard to resist. Impossible actually. A mystery himself, Aidan disappears, leaving behind a broken heart and a mysterious book that suggests Bryn might not be entirely human.

Bryn stands at the threshold of a journey of discovery. Will destiny help her find herself, find her purpose and her place in a world in which she’d never belonged?

My opinion:
When Brenda introduced me to this story my first thought was ”Yes Norse Mythology!”  I haven’t come across than many books with this topic and since I love mythology as a whole and Norse one being in my favourites I had to learn more. Then I was told about great writing style of the author I couldn’t wait any longer and as soon as the opportunity presented itself I picked the book….. I don’t regret my choice for a second.

This is a really fascinating story, the beginning is a little slow and despite the fact I immediately guessed what professor Halbrook was doing and disliked him for that I got immersed in the story and loved to see how Bryn discovered another dimension with all her misconceptions. Oh I still would like some explanation about why he did what he did to see if he can be redeemed in my eyes but we forget her past easily to jump in Bryn’s adventures.

I really to see how emotional she was because it made her easy to relate to, Joshua was important for her and loosing him was a great blow… the way people acted was so mean and the school director really disgusted me. He should have tried to help not to judge like that, what happen with Brody was heartbreaking (still I must learn what happen to him after because we are still in the dark)  and Miss Cluster was the kind of mother figure Bryn should have found a long time ago, she takes the side of the children she is fostering and she is a gentle soul ( fierce warrior underneath too) it was great to see one positive person in the city.

I’m still partial to Aidan though ( I guess like miss Cluster) , I can understand why he did what he did but at the same time I find it hard to forgive….i will need to see more of his action to be sure he is right for Bryn ( what can I said I do want Joshua to have his HEA too, he is deserving it)… I’m curious to know if Aidan is the reincarnation of Brunhilde’s lover, the one for who she chose to live (and die) in the mortal realms after all we learn that she chose to live with her soulmate, only love but no name, no more explanation and since I love romance I need more ^^ (which made me curious too why Asgard never tried to get the body back, it would have been less risky in my opinion)

The romance is slow since Bryn and Aidan must first learn about themselves and to trust each other again but it’s there and it’s lovely written. I was fond of Sigrun and Fenrir  too. The Norse mythology is explained enough if the reader never heard of it ( after both film with Thor it would be surprising though ;) ) The action was fast paced and it was amusing to see how much Bryn has of instant knowledge when in other part she is so naïve.

Really it was a great read and I can only regret the cliffhanger fortunately book 2 and now 3 are already released so we don’t have to wait to long to jump on them. To recommend
