Description from goodreads :

Charlene Morris knew Salem, Massachusetts had a spooky reputation. But when she decided to open her B&B there, she expected guests--not ghosts...

A grieving young widow, Charlene needed a new start--so she bought a historic mansion, sight unseen, and drove from Chicago to New England to start turning it into a bed-and-breakfast. On her first night in the house, she awakens to find a handsome man with startling blue eyes in her bedroom. Terror turns to utter disbelief when he politely introduces himself as Jack Strathmore--and explains that he used to live here--when he was alive. He firmly believes that someone pushed him down the stairs three years ago, and he won't be able to leave until someone figures out who. If Charlene wants to get her business up and running in time for the Halloween tourist rush, and get this haunting houseguest out of the way, she'll have to investigate. Though truth be told, this ghost is starting to grow on her . . .

My opinion:
A gem! For the first book in a new series this is more than promising and i enjoyed every minute of it even if i did had my suspicions about the culprit identity i still couldn't stop reading..
Really, it's perfect; the characters are growing on you, the rhythm is just what it needs to be between discoveries and new questions there is the right doses of humour and paranormal  a fabulous entertaining cozy mystery.

Charlene is a wonderful character, easy to love. She is honest, loyal and she wants to do well despite still suffering herself . I loved how she reacted to the mysterious cat and with Jack.
Jack is a spirit but he has a sense of humour and got protective of Charlene...his link to the cat was also very cute.

The investigation part is wonderfully written, allowing us to discover the city and his inhabitants along with Charlene and we are hooked from the start to the last page.

Really with you want a cozy mystery with paranormal element this one you wouldn't regret trying. To recommend

My opinion:
This is such a good book, i love mystery with paranormal elements and this series is fantastic for that; even better if you are missing some books in the series you still can enjoy the new one fully ( you will just want to read what you missed as soon as possible).

June is trying to prevent a disaster while helping hide/safe a very rare bird when a group of tourists come to try to capture it....investigation are not as easy when it's not mystics related since time is counting and Oscar can't keep the tourist in Whispering Falls for a long time.

I loved to see June and Oscar working together and learning more about some of the gifts those from Whisperings fall have.Mr Prince Charming is as always a wonderful protector.

Full of sweet moments, wonderful characters,  a great investigation and a touch of magic this cozy mystery is a must read.

A Ghostly Suspect (Ghostly Southern Mysteries 8 ) by Tonya Kappes [early review]

Hello to all!!!

For the first sunny and dry day of this month ( it was really time even if the reprieve is extra short with new storms tomorrow) i decided to share with you my opinion on another book that releases this week so you can preorder or jump on it as soon as it's available.

It's book 8 in a series i really enjoy from Tonya Kappes: the Ghosthly Southern Mysteries series with Emma Lee the unlucky Betweener. It's really a great time for the release because it's the kind of great funny cozy mystery we enjoy taking with us on vacation this one is no exception.

Happy reading
Publisher: Tonya Kappes
Publication: 2019
Genre: cozy mystery, southern, paranormal mystery
Violence: mild
Language: normal
sex: none
Public: 16+

Description from goodreads/amazon :

 A funeral, a ghost, a murder . . . It's all in a day's work for Emma Lee Raines . . .
especially when the ghost turns out to be someone very dear to her heart. Debbie Dually, psychic and friend who has guided Emma Lee since the she was bopped on the head from a falling plastic Santa, local undertaker Emma Lee Raines is told she's suffering from “funeral trauma.”

Debbie Dually is the one who informed Emma Lee that she wasn't crazy, she was a Betweener, someone who can communicate with ghosts with the not-so-dearly departed. In fact, she told Emma Lee how she was the only one that could help solve their murder to help them rest in eternal peace.

This time Debbie Dually finds herself needing Emma's help. This means solving her own murder.
Emma goes deep undercover as a fake psychic in order to see into the past and help Debbie cross over. Emma Lee doesn't realize this opens up a whole can of new Betweener clients that refuse to leave her alone.

When Emma Lee is tagged as the number one suspect in Debbie Dually's death, her handsome state trooper boyfriend, Jack Henry, has no choice but to come back to Whispering Falls and get to the bottom of what is going on before it's too late and Emma Lee goes to the state pen for a very long time.

My opinion:
Poor Emma, being a betweener sure is never easy and it does impact a life a lot...this time it's her "mentor" who is found dead and since they were seen together just before Emma is the suspect. Thankfully she still has support in Granny ( using her charms to get her an lawyer), Jack henry, her lover,  and Mazie her new "assistant".

This book is a great addition top the series but could easily be read as stand alone too  which makes it just even better. As each time we have a lot of humour in it, lot of investigation and action and just the right dose of romance to make it a page turner we devour in one sitting. The twists were really well done to keep us second guessing culprits.

I really loved this book but i admit some of Debbie 's predictions made me quite worried and impatient for next book . It's no clihhanger , this investigation is solved but we just get a good hint about some question and possible events we just want more.

So once again a perfect cozy mystery with a great southern setting not to be missed!!

Happy reading!!!!!

YOU Description from goodreads :

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes a Horribly Sunny Mystery, The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant.

NOBODY MESSES WITH HIS LIBRARIAN. . .

Who killed Michael Vanderhorst’s maker? It’s a darn good question. But when the trail brings Michael to hellishly sunny Phoenix, Arizona, his biggest problem soon becomes a cute little librarian he can’t seem to stay away from. He’s never met a bigger danger magnet! Even her book cart has it out for her. And is that the drug cartel following her around, too? “Dear God, woman! What have you gotten yourself into?”

Things go from bad to worse when local vampires won’t play nice.

Can this four-hundred-year-old vampire keep his librarian safe and himself out of hot water? Can he bring his maker’s killer to justice? Yesterday, he would’ve said yes. But yesterday, he didn’t have a strange connection with a librarian. Yesterday, people weren’t trying to kill her

My opinion:
I really loved this paranormal romance mystery , it was refreshing and funny!  original as well because for once the vampire isn't the boss -oki among vampires he is- the human girl is her boss in the normal one and poor vampire is only a librarian assistant so no high class job.

I particularly loved the fact that it was his choice. Miriam intrigues him and he wants to understand why especially since she isn't a top model and more clumsy than he could have imagined adding the fact some are targetting her  then his need to protect her jump into action with some consequences he wasn't looking forward like a bond with an human. Michael is on the hunt to find his the one who killed his maker, not looking for love and he has zero experience with turning or the general rule with a bond between humans and vampire.  The law he knows the how, consequences, effects he is only guessing since he had  no interest in that for 400y.
I loved the fact that no matter how strong he is he still has to learn. he best part? He is a books lover!!

The secondary character like Lula are funny as well, she needs Michael as she is younger than him but she also understand him and second him the best she can even when she disapprove his decision. Some members of the council are more than funny as well.

The investigation is captivating, there is a lot of humour and action and a touch of romance : the perfect mix! I can't wait to get my hands on book 2!

A Ghostly Undertaking (Ghostly Southern Mysteries 1) by Tonya Kappes

Hello to all,

I know i usually don't post on Monday but since i will have medical appointment later this week i though better to be careful and take some advance also i was so happy with my latest reading that i couldn't wait to share it with you.

This weekend, when i was obligated to stay put and not move, i decided to start a  book that was on my radar and in my pile for quite a moment..
to be honest i was reminded of it because of a  guestpost Lexi george wrote lately for a newest release and after that i was in the mood for some adventure in the Southern area...after that i couldn't resist any longer and i picked A Ghostly Undertaking by Tonya Kappes.

Happy Reading

Short description from goodreads :

A funeral, a ghost, a murder…it’s all in a day’s work for Emma Lee Raines…

Bopped on the head from a falling plastic Santa, local undertaker Emma Lee Raines is told she’s suffering from “funeral trauma.” It’s trauma all right, because the not so dearly departed keep talking to her. Take Ruthie Sue Payne--innkeeper, gossip queen, and arch-nemesis of Emma Lee’s granny—she’s adamant that she didn’t just fall down those stairs. She was pushed.

Ruthie has no idea who wanted her pushing up daisies. All she knows is that she can’t cross over until the matter is laid to eternal rest. In the land of the living, Emma Lee’s high-school crush, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross, isn’t ready to rule out foul play. Granny Raines, the widow of Ruthie’s ex-husband and co-owner of the Sleepy Hollow Inn, is the prime suspect. Now Emma Lee is stuck playing detective or risk being haunted forever.

My opinion:
This is my first attempt at a paranormal mystery i think and i really, really enjoyed it.  I was attracted to it because of it's setting....after having read Lexi George's books Southern regions picked my interest and from what i know of it ( which is very little) i felt that Tonya Kappes recreated the perfect ambience for the setting of this story.

Emma is a character i can relate to, she is a little apart and never really felt like she belonged with the rest of her age...she doesn't take time to take care of herself bent to help other and she is loyal. She didn't always had her gift either or perhaps she had and it wasn't active anyway she suddenly sees ghosts even doesn't believe it at first thinking it's only a trauma from her line of work.

However when a woman her family isn't friend with is found dead and her spirit comes banging at her door and interferes in her life she must help her to clear her grandmother's name yes but also to find her tranquillity back. I loved how Emma step in and just don't let thing happen. She was sure lucky to have Jack so understanding and open minded ( and in the right line of work when murders are the topic^^).

The investigation is well written and even if i did guess the culprit its motives were surprising and simply the way Emma  works to solve it was very entertaining and i didn't want to stop before i finished  the book.

It's definitively a series i want to continue ( happy to have the next book ready^^) as it promises a lot of humour and a touch of suspense  while Emma is already a reason enough to  keep enjoying these adventures. If you want a paranormal mystery i definitively recommend this one or if you simply want more of the setting.
