Dalig Hund Wolves series book 1&2 by Emma Alysin

Hello to all!

Today i'm sharing with you my opinion on two novella by Emma Alysin taking place in the same universe as the author is releasing them again ( changing the order among other things)...there is a change of covers too and to be honest if the new ones may reflect more on the story i really prefer the precedent ones so it's those i will show you.

Happy reading

Mated to the Enemy Alpha

If you are looking for a erotic paranormal romance short story this is one for you.  Don't expect romance as there quite a bit of  non consensual scenes ( wolf's part agrees as their are mates but it's no romance just instinct)
it's not bad written and quickly read.

The main plot is light the heroine goes in to get revenge and instead find her mate and they do jump on each other too quickly to my taste i think it could have been better if the story was longer and if they took their time but since it's a novella all is a bit rushed.

Taken by the Werewolf ( Dalig Hund Wolves 2)

First, better to let you know that this short novella takes place around the same time as  "Mated to the Enemy Alpha" and not just after so some events are seen in both story but from a different angle.

It's a paranormal erotic romance but i appreciated that it was less violent ( the steamy parts not the story as itself) even if there is more dirty language involved. It's a very steamy one, way too short novella , for example i would have loved if we knew a bit more about what was happening to the sister after so the end is kind of abrupt.

Globally i prefer this story as we get to see a bit more about the pack law, habits etc from this universe and i loved the characters more.

Levi ( The Garguiem 1) by Lola White

Hello to all,

Surprise! For once i manage to post my review on Tuesday like i had planned to^^. Now it's true that i had hoped at first to  finish and post this review for the release date of this book but that wasn't possible so a few days later it's nothing.

I know that this book won't please everybody because of the topic, some really don't like when Religion is used in a romance paranormal or erotic or when religious person are put in question. I can understand that and if it's your case then  you can skip today post if you want. However if you can put your beliefs aside for a moment and see that a story is only a story then you could give this one a try.

Happy Reading!

Description from goodreads :

The Garguiem—fighting evil and corruption through faith, duty and love.

He’s part of an ancient order that’s been fighting corruption within the Catholic Church since the Middle Ages. She’s two months away from taking permanent vows to become a nun.

When Levi is sent to Waterview to investigate the possibility of demonic influences among the diocesan clergy, he meets Marcella, and immediately recognizes her as his other half, his gift from God.

He just has to convince her that love is worth leaving the nunnery for.

But as Levi starts leading Marcella down the path of temptation, her faith is tested in ways she never expected, and the one responsible for bringing evil to Waterview sees his chance to exploit her weakness.

My opinion:
A very good discovery! This is my first  book from this author and i really enjoyed it ...The Garguiem are a special  group among the catholic  Church dedicated to fight evil when it manifest in  real life. They are part of the Church but no priest at all which means they can have family  but also to help them in their task they got some powers... it differs for each warrior as we learn it can be empathy, better sense, etc.

I admit that  this book could hurt some sensibilities if religion is something for you that can’t be touched and that the simple idea that some people in the system can be corrupted. But if you are open minded this become a very captivating story. For me  all people even priest are first of all human which means that they are not above making errors or worse so the idea of a “real “ divine order to keep the rank clean was very interesting.

I really loved how the author constructed the origins of the Garguiem ( or what we learn of it at this point) and i really loved the fact that for them Female are worth as much as males. It made me smile as for such an old order they were very progressive from teh start in comparaison to the whole clergy. The author also gave nuns an important role in the story, putting them under the light and acknologing their worth that was refreshing.

Now i can still imagine what could bother you but if you remember that Marcella isn’t a nun yet it makes perfect sense! I really loved the Mother Superior and how attentive and open she was, you will see what i means if you read this but i don’t want to reveal too much.

The plot is well constructed, the characters are  touching even if Levi can be very VERY straightforward. We do get to learn a bit of his past so it’s easier to understand his reasonning but still  i admit i wasn’t always at ease with his actions.

This story is a kind of thriller, you have an investigations, suspects and a big dose of mystical/ paranormal elements  added to the romance. It’s also very steamy  so better be prepared for that. If teh beginning can be a little confusing you get into the story quite rapidly and then, you can’t stop turning the pages to learn more.

I’ve read this as an arc so the final version will perhaps vary from what i’ve read but in what i’ve read two elements bothered me. Sometimes the jumping between the chapters was a little too harsh and rapid  you end a chapter with a character and an setting then  it’s completly different without the link easily made, that got me confused sometimes and i even had to check if i hadn’t missed a page or something.
Then it’s a little more a personnal opinion but i didn’t like some of the place where the characters did what they did or when they did it ... i can be open minded but that was  too much for me, too unappropriate ( somehow i was expecting Levi to be more respectful i guess).

That aside i really enjoyed this story so if you think this could be something you could like give it a try! I do hope to read the next one as well if given teh opportunity.

Score:  3,5/5

Vampire for Christmas by Felicity Heaton

Hello to all,

The world isn't ending today it seems (even if the electricy keeps going down) and i prefer that because i still have a lot to share with us so today you will get 2 posts because i'm really really happy now.
Last month i discovered Felicity Heaton with Heart of Darkness , a book i really loved; but she also wrote a novella " Vampire for Christmas" and i couldn't miss to read it this month.

So here is my opinion on "Vampire for Christmas" not to be confused with the anthology " A vampire for Christmas" ;)

Happy reading!

Publisher: felicity heaton
Publication: 2010
Genre: paranormal romance, erotic, holiday romance
Violence: strong

Language: normal
sex: really strong

Short description from goodreads :

It was one last mission. Shannon, a demon hunter with the agency, is looking forward to leaving behind the small town and the vampire she’s been stuck with for the past two years. Things are getting complicated fast and she wants out. A fresh start, free of her vampire partner, awaits her if she can survive their final mission and the lonely Christmas holidays.

It was one last mission. Rafe, a vampire doing time with the agency, watches it approach with dread weighing heavily in his stomach. Two years of working with Shannon has been difficult, especially since he started falling for her, but he doesn’t want their partnership to end. He has barely a few days to make her face her feelings and stop her from leaving, and he intends to do just that.

When a slimy demon threatens the season of peace and goodwill, it’s the chance Rafe has been waiting for and the moment Shannon secretly fears. Rafe’s determination to prise open her heart and her own resolve to keep it closed clash as violently as they do with the demon, and threatens to end as messily.

Can Rafe make Shannon see that his love for her is real and that she feels something for him too? Can Shannon face her fears and her past, and stop herself from running away from both? Will a wish on a star bring her what her heart truly desires—a vampire for Christmas.

My opinion:
Felicity Heaton offers us a good erotic paranormal holiday romance.  I didn’t enjoy it as much as Heart of Darkness that I’ve read last month though but it’s still a really pleasant read.
The relation between Shannon and Rafe is interesting; I loved to see how patient he was as well as how disturbed by the idea of their separation he is. The fact that he is studying in hope to protect her better was really cute too. Now we get more information about him a little to late for my taste, we learn that he is obligated to work for the agency and why but the reality is really harder and that we learn only at the end even worse seems like nothing will be done about it either and that disappointed a little. I would have loved if Shannon took the decision to do something about it so he could works for the agency perhaps but really on his free will not because he must too.

Also Shannon‘s behaviour is understandable only when we learn her past and when we know of it let’s said the agency’s decisions can seem really strange. After all they couldn’t be sure of the result but perhaps they even didn’t care. I guess I would have liked to have more information about that but this being a novella I can understand that not everything can be said, just it’s regrettable in my opinion.
The way they tiptoes around each other most of the time is touching but also frustrating until we learn they reason and even then, Rafe’s reaction is moving, perfect…Shannon I don’t know I get the feeling she is a bit jumping the steps, yes she is trusting him since a longer time that the one she admit but it’s different that overcome a real fear in matters of hours.

Felicity’s writing style is still really easy to read and the idea of the story is excellent but perhaps it would have been better in a novel to space and explain more things because I liked it yes, even lot but I wasn’t drawn in the story like with her other books and that disappointed me a little.

To recommend to the lover of erotic paranormal romance, above 18 of course, who want a little story for Christmas.

Grey’s Lady ( Carte Blanche1) by Natasha Blackthorne

Hello to all,

since i took a break from my creative work - i 'm attempting to draw new models for my keychains and bookmarks- and from the school work, i've pursued my discovered of historical romance subgenre so today i introduce you to Natasha Blackthorne and her novella "Grey's Lady", not for all publics that's for sure but really well written.

Enjoy!

Short description from goodread :

Seeking sexual excitement and conquest, poor but beautiful Beth seduces wealthy merchant prince Grey Sexton, only to find herself the pursued as he seeks to own her body and soul.

Flouting the moral standards of Jeffersonian America, temptress Beth McConnell lets no man touch her heart. Her motto is love them once and leave them burning.

But when she boldly seduces Grey Sexton, a self-controlled merchant prince from New York, she finds herself too fascinated by his ice-over-fire nature to stay away. His possessive determination to own her, body and soul, threatens to expose her secret erotic life to public shame.

But Beth will only surrender her love to a man she can trust. And Grey's materialistic approach to relationships leaves her little reason to believe he can ever give her what she truly needs.

For these two cynical yet lonely people, can deep sexual intimacy work a miracle and lead to the opening of their hearts?

My opinion:

Great novella, I really like the writing style of Natasha Blackthorne very dynamic and moving. Now at first I saw this book as an historical romance with an erotic touch but after reading it I think it’s preferable to say it’s a erotic story that takes place in the past like a historical romance^^, small detail but really important one.

The story takes place in America, Philadelphia to be more precise and I liked this change of scenery because a lot of the historical romances I’ve read so far are set in England and I wanted something different.

The characters did amuse me, Beth is determined, having been hurt she wants to turn the tables and be the seductress now however she forgot that it’s a dangerous game and feelings can’t be so easily controlled. Grey irritates her but captivates her too so well that she changes her rules and accept to see him more than once but still wants to keep her independence. She is experimented, young and strong willed far from the naïve girl we are often confronted to in the historical romance.
Grey has lived a life where he kept mistresses, took care of them but doesn’t form any attachment, feelings to them. For him it’s like a contract. Beth surprises him she is bold but still keeps something innocent about her that’s not faked. Attracted, he decides that he will keep her so that she doesn’t go to some else and are always available for him. He couldn’t imagine that one sane woman could say no to his generous offer, but Beth did and now he must understand what he is feeling and what he is ready to sacrifice.

It’s short yes, a bit normal since it’s a novella not a full book but I spend a great time when I wasn’t blushing because it’s really not for a public under 18years. The erotic part are numerous, exceptionally well written and really hot. Perhaps even a bit too much for me.

To recommend for the lover of historical romances who wants something hot!

Score:  3,5/5
