Hello to all,

While in the middle of an heat wave, i did manage to read a little which slowly improves my mood as well (little achiements do boost you) so since i really loved book 1 in the Extreme Medical Services and that the ending was too abrupt i jumped on book 2 to read them back to back which is what i recommend you to do ( thanks for the bundle you can even do it at a lesser price.)

Happy reading

Read the rest of this exciting paranormal emergency medical adventure romance series with book 1, Extreme Medical Services and the prequel novella The Vampire and the Paramedic. Both are available wherever you buy ebooks

My opinion:
This isn't a standalone at all so you must have read book 1 minimum , the prequel could also be read before but it also works after as we do get glimpse of event told in this book that makes us want to read it if we haven't do so yet but still we are not lacking anything if we wait longer.
In fact, this story start just were book 1 stopped so we are immediately in the action and that's great, even better if read back to back.

In this instalment we do get some medical actions ( still some big ones), some sweet moments even, but less than in book 1 as we focus on the actual threat and we get to see how it could be even worse and deep. On the plus side we do learn more about unusual as well as we are discovering about the Eldara and learning with Dean, who made his choice.

This story immerses us more into the winding of the system and what is happening behind the scenes with some informations putting us on edge about what is coming. This time the ending is less abrupt since we are not in the middle of an intervention but it still let us on edge for the next one in the series. I do prefer that to an abrupt cliffhanger.

I really liked this second book and want more.

Score:  4,5/5

Hello to all,

October is behind us and it means i'm behind in my crafting schedule, i will have to do better. On teh reading side... november is the month when we remember to say what we are thankfull for, when we remember to tell people what they did for us.... i don't think it should be done only once a year so i do try to do it each time but  this month help.

This is the reason of the choice for the first book i'm giving you my opinion on this month... to say thank you also. I met the author via a blog tour stop and she very kindly reacted to what i commented.. offering me more pleasure that i could have hoped for. That gesture simply deserved a big thanks and it does not impact my review of the book at all.... but i also have to says thanks for teh book itself as it was a wonderful one.

( on the little side not it also fit the GGMMMU event by Brenad^^ so remember to check it as well)

Happy reading

Short description from goodreads :

Time is not on everyone’s side…

Mortal mess-up Lucy Markson makes one tiny miscalculation and her soul ends up belonging to an evil demon. Forced to serve the newly Fallen angels recruited by her master, she must take one of the Fallen through the seven deadly sins.

Fallen angel Sawyer Succendo didn’t jump from heaven. He was pushed. And now he’s lost everything, including his halo – which contains his earthbound soul.

In a race with an evil demon to claim his lost halo, Sawyer must trust a woman designed for sin – literally. Learning the true power of free will, Sawyer just might save them both, if he can keep his mind on the plan and his hands to himself.

But if he can’t find his halo and save the girl, then he’ll be grounded forever.

My opinion:
Fantastic novella , really I loved it  because while it’s short it feels complete and you grasp the universe immediately… however, aside from the writing, the story in itself is simply too good: full of faith, love and hope so that you are left smiling and ready to see what tomorrow will be.

It’s a paranormal romance of course ,not a preaching book don’t fear,  but  I liked the message I could see, was it  one of the author’s purpose or not. We see angels who think the grass is greener elsewhere and decided to give up their angelic power to a demon to experience human pleasures…. I though I was really adequate for once to see them in that position (after all we are made on the same patterns ;) )  However one, Sawyer, didn’t choose to come on earth, he was pushed. The shock for him is big as you can imagine.

Confronted like the others to the seven sins via Lucy, a mortal who got into the demon hands, he is determined to get back his halo, his soul, and he wants to stay true to his maker. Like for us, resisting isn’t that easy but what surprises him the most is his attraction for Lucy.

I won’t say more to avoid spoilers but let say that I love the idea that nothing happen without reason and I told you this one a hopeful, loving story so really don’t fear taking this one. I must say though that while this story is complete (for Sawyer and Lucy) I really hope for me not that it would be a necessity but simply it’s a universe I really would love to immerse myself again.

And if you don’t like reading about angel and demons because you are not at ease with that topic let me tell you that this one didn’t clash with my beliefs nor did they tampered with them. You can read it without worry it’s a paranormal romance worth the discovery

Angel’s blood ( Guild Hunter 1) by Nalini Singh

Hello to all!

"Carnaval" has started here so it also means lack of sleep in my case ( no i'm not partying just suffering the drunks noise in the street and the pub's music loud enough to be hear several streets away ( yes that loud)). The advantage is that i can hide and try to read as much as i want ^^ after i do share a little with you, of course.

This monthy was more fror reading pleasure than anything else even if Kimba from Caffeniated Book Reviewer really helped me to stay motivated and to read more...still i promised myself that i would try to read a book or an author that has been recommend for me for a long time.. one each month... how to try to mix the 2 goals? Simply by trying a new series by an author that has been added on my favourite list already.

I discovered Nalini Singh thanks to the PsiChangeling, published in French by Milady and i loved it nearly instantly ... later i was told she has another great series with angels and vampires but i didn't managed to get my hand on it until a few month ago....i ignored it was also translated but by another publisher so this Guild hunter series i  will read in VO. Also thanks to Nikki i got more books in the series because i was quickly addicted^^ now i just have to read faster because i do want more

Short description from goodreads :

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best- but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option—even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break

My opinion:
Nalini Singh ‘s writing is real magic.  She manage to drew you in her universes and you feel at home; it was the case with the psychic and shifters in her “psychangeling” series, this time it’s angel and vampires but the magic still operate.

I love how she doesn’t give you all the keys to the world, in which the story is set, right at the start but you never feel lost. You have enough to start and you grow up with the main character as he or she is learning so do you. her universe become steadily more complex but it’s gradually done so you feel at ease immersed in the story.

In this first book, we focus on Elena, a vampire hunter , member of the guild. To explain without saying too much  ( after all we still know little specific),she is a born hunter which in this universe means she has a talent to detect and thus hunt vampires but as a member of the guild she only hunt those who have become bad or tried to breach their contract.
Contract? Yes, here vampires are made by angels ( strange no?^^) , it must be consensual, the human petition to be made vampire, the angels study his/her case and if accepted he is made in exchange for 100 years of service… so yes servant or slave it depends on the master, the angel but in any case so is the contract and that’s done also to protect humans. When a vampire trie to leave before his time, the guild is called to bring him ( her) back.

Now the born hunters are few and the guild has hunter without that specificity too, I wouldn’t say other hunters are “normal humans” but they differ from Elena and the hunter borns, they can have some immunity perhaps ort special talents but then so far we don’t know a lot. Elena is the best in her branch and the best friend of the director of the guild ( who is elected by the way), she also has another hunter born has a friend: Ransom.
Now I spoke of the hunters, of the vampires, what of the angels? You can’t imagine a world divided in two angels on one side, vampires on the other, good vs bad. It’s really more complex. Yes the angels makes the vampires but some of them have an higher rank than some angels, of course it would take centuries for them to reach that level of powers but it’s possible. In fact the world is divided in a kind of sector or kingdom some would say with at their head an archangel (male or female) . The archangel is the one at the top, the one who ensure peace and keeps angels and vampires in line. To reach that result, yes they can be cruel, the longer they lived the less connected with humanity they are, some really thinks of themselves as god.  An angel can with time and if he shows some specific power become an archangel… however they number are limited to ten, and it’s their council that takes the decision like judgement on a archangel or those who affect the world in general.
Archangels and angels are immortals (like vampires) but if it’s hard it’s not impossible to kill them. Also they can reproduce but the birth rate is really low, vampire can too with a human mate but only if they are not too old ( less than 200 y)

All of these infos don’t cover everything so you can imagine how an interesting universe it is.  I really loved to see Raphael, the powerful archangel start to doubt himself thanks to Elena sharp tongue and resistance.  I do love how all the angel have a different wing pattern  too, it’s exciting to imagine or guess who has what. But I must say I was really intrigued by the seven. The seven are composed of vampires and angels and are the honor guard of Raphael; he is the only archangel to have such a group of highly loyal supporters, the top security? Dmitri is making me curious but he is not the only one….contrary to what we could believe they are at that place by choice and won Raphael’s respect and trust…they chose to be loyal it’s not because he made them ( I don’t know if he made any of the vampire in that group but I’m sure for 2)…. He is an intelligent leader even if he was sometimes too cruel ( normal for an archangel). Now yes he can be cruel but he still care for those under him and we can see it’s not the case for all the others member from the ten…he was a little too alpha and too forceful with Elena but he never crossed the line, it was instinctive but she didn’t react well to the compulsion and mind talking ^^;;.

Elena has a troubled past and is an outcast for her family that made her really independent which is why she was fighting Raphael’s orders at first until he went in her head and made her so angry. But deep down she is loyal and understand him better that what he thinks there are a good match and I’m glad a later book in the series will focus again on them.

This book has a cliffhanger for the main story line, but the story between Raphael and Elena and their hunt has a closure so I definitively want more but if I had to I could wait without too much stress. If you love urban fantasy with steamy romance, fierce fighter and hero with a huge ego^^ this is the book for you!

Raven Cursed ( Jane Yellowrock 4) by Faith Hunter

Hello!

The weather is spoiling us right now with 7 degrees above the normal ( nearly 17°c) and a bright sun so i won't be long because i want to enjoy it as long as i can ^^, it way to early so we know it won't last but it's really good for the moral to savour it when we can.

Today i decided to pick a book from my pile that fitted several challenges and i opted for the fourth book in the Jane Yellowrock series since it got shifters and witches and is an older book too... i've enjoyed the book but strangely i had a little more difficulties to express my opinion on it so i can only hope i will be clear enough^^

happy reading and i hope spring will come to enlight your days no matter where you live.

Short description from goodreads :

The vampires of Asheville, North Carolina, want to establish their own clan, but since they owe loyalty to the Master Vampire of New Orleans they must work out the terms with him. To come up with an equitable solution, he sends an envoy with the best bodyguard blood money can buy: Jane Yellowrock.

But when a group of local campers are attacked by something fanged, Jane goes from escort to investigator. Unless she wants to face a very angry mast vampire, she will have to work overtime to find the killer. It's a good thing she's worth every penny.

My opinion:
I have mixed feeling this time… oh I do have loved this book and it’s still as well written as the precedent and a great addition to the series. However I had some trouble to understand Jane this time or agree with her decisions….as a result I was quite angry at some moment even if I couldn’t put the book aside.

Jane finally reveals what she is at more people but that was what I felt wrong….she could have say the truth to her shaman Angie that I would have understood….Derek Lee too (until now he was my favourite) but she tells it to Ricky.. the unfaithful, lying, deceiving man of her life…. In my opinion It could have been the worse choice, not that I would have loved to see her tell all her secrets to the vampire but Ricky! Arg I don’t trust him for a second and he is tempted to go back to the enemy once again , with a special agency that is dangerous for all supernatural.. arg Jane think with something else than your body! Beast is perhaps thinking Ricky could be a great bed partner… but she doesn’t see herself bound to him for eternity so secret should be kept!

It’s true that I always preferred Derek the more responsible and one that’ seemed to understand Jane better….now it’s not exactly what happen in this story but I guess all friendship needs to be refreshed at a time or another, especially since they were more partner, colleague than friend to start with.Derek at least stay reliable in my opinion. We don’t see too much of Leo this time, even if we do hear a lot from him, since it’s Gregoire that Jane is tasked to protect and  that  outside New Orleans….I didn’t remembered Gregoire well I admit but I was delighted to see more of the B-Twins and they are working well with Jane all the while being more than simply colleague….when she needs understanding she didn’t think it would come from them nor did she think she would need it but they were there and I want more of them.

This story focus largely on the magical part since Evangelina, head of molly’s coven is practising illegal magic and… black magic too. I hated her and that feeling just grew stronger that woman is pure evil and completely out of her mind this time she even goes against her coven, yes we don’t know all her past but still….i don’t approve her at all. So magic is predominant this time even if the shifter part is still well built with the werewolves who escaped last time, the lack leopard who still need to be taught a lesson and Ricky which we still don’t exactly know the future..

I really appreciated to get a little more of the Cherokee legends since Evangelina called one demon from them but Angie baby knows more than it seems and it was really wonderful to learn and it let so many possibilities open, I do want more .

However another part disappointed me a little: Molly…..we don’t often see strong female friendship so I was really happy to see Jane and Molly….despite her husband not liking her friend Molly stayed true to their friendship… until now. We discover that she doesn’t trust Jane near her children as before since she doesn’t go again Big Evan. Sadly it just got even worse….it’s something I regret, I do hope we will see the situation improving but I’m not sure. Jane has another friend prospect, on the vampire side but friendship needs time to grow so it’s too early to tell.

The story was fast passed and the humour vastly presents despites the violence and heartbreak so it’s really an excellent instalment in the series, I can’t wait to start on the next one either. I would recommend to read this series in order but at the same time, if one book could be read without having read the precedent ones it should be this one, the author gives the necessarily information and the story is focusing so well that you are immersed directly.

If you love, magic, shifters, vampires, native American legends, history, humour and fast paced action, this series is right for you
