Description from goodreads :

Verity Long is overdue for a little R&R (rest and romance) with her boyfriend Ellis, and a vintage train trip through the Tennessee mountains seems like just the ticket. The Sugarland Express carries history and nostalgia in every compartment, and Verity is determined to enjoy it—without ghostly interference. But the ghosts have other plans…

On a dark, desolate night nearly a century ago, the train was stranded in the mountains and a young woman was found stabbed to death in her locked compartment. The murder was never solved, and a ghostly Belgian detective is still pursuing the case from the grave.

To Verity’s dismay, all of the ghostly suspects are back. And when history repeats itself and a new murder mirrors the old, it’s up to Verity and her friends to discover which of the passengers—dead or alive—could be behind the murders before the killer strikes again.

My opinion:

Captivating! This instalment is perhaps the best so far, good intrigue with several twists, action, suspense, tension and a good dose of humour  simply perfect!!!

This is one of my favourite series and i love the fact i can still be surprised! Verity is really a good character and so loyal and kind hearted now she doesn't always listen to reason but we love her for that. This time all happen on a train journey which mean a specific place, limited suspects and still  a very complicated investigation as Verity must solve a murder in both time period 1929 and now....with the help of her boyfriends Ellis and her ghost Frankie who would prefer to woo his own girlfriend Molly......but Molly isn't that different from Verity so dear gangster is stuck playing good cop as to avoid the ghost detective on the case ( a Belgian one!^^) and impress Molly.

Really all is there,  the little allusion to Agatha Christie is wonderful ( i mean really when you hear "Belgian detective" you can only think of one); the characters are so well though as we discover new side of one we already know and some new one are easy to doubt, hate or love be it living ones or ghostly ones.

I don't want to reveal too much but let say that Ellis and Verity's plan to have a little vacation away from  everyone doesn't go as planned at all, Frankie is a lot more powerful as our heroine stay linked to the other side the majority of the trip and...Virginia still isn't on my "like" list but she sure can be pragmatic when needed.

I do recommend you to read the series in order though but  you won't regret it and i can't wait for book 7!

Description from goodreads :

The latest in the USA Today bestselling Southern Ghost Hunter series!

Southern girl Verity Long is about as high society as her pet skunk. Which is why she’s surprised as anyone when the new head of the Sugarland social set invites her to join the "it" girls. But this is no social call. Verity’s new client needs her to go in undercover and investigate strange happenings at the group’s historic headquarters.

But while spirits are whispering hints of murder, the socialites are more focused on Verity’s 1978, avocado-green Cadillac. And when Verity stumbles upon a fresh body, she's going to need the long-dead citizens of Sugarland to help her solve the crime. Good thing she has the handsome deputy sheriff Ellis Wydell on hand, as well as her ghostly sidekick Frankie. The bad thing is, the ghosts are now whispering about the end of a certain ghost hunter

My opinion:
I really do love this series and it's so well written that even if you are new to the series you could still enjoy this one as the author does  remind us of the important events that happened to lead to the actual situation.  Still if you can start by the beginning it's too good to miss.

However, let see this specific story first.
Verity has decided to accept her gift and try to make a job of it when Frankie agree to lend a bit of its power which isn't often done without some bargaining. She still believes in him but our gangster has quite a mind of its own though a certain lady is perhaps changing that. On the sentimental side, Verity 's relationship with Ellis is evolving well....at least as long as they are left to their own .

We do learn a bit more about Verity's ancestry and i would be happy to meet Ida, we discover Ellis' mother ....i hated her in book 1 and i still do! That woman is intelligent but such a monster...she knew what her son did but  still has it against Verity even after trying to take her last cent! Now she is acting again and  i so would like to see her punished ( and of course i still want Beau to pay dearly for what he did!) because for her all is about appearance.
We also see a bit more of the south's tradition and i really love that. It's funny to see how the city  forgot his history to change it to what would feel more acceptable....but  i do appreciate that  some try to rectify that like Verity. I must say that i'm curious to see how Verity will manage in those society club.

So for the investigation itself it was really funny, i loved the different ghosts and the rhythm was perfect keeping you glued to the book . You want to know the culprit and to see him (or they) get what they deserve....it can take time ( i mean looks for Beau he sure deserves to be punished but so far he isn't) but i'm sure we won't be disappointed.

There is a lot of humour , Molly and Henrietta are some ghosts you will love, Frankie has some ideas to win money after all for him all is about money generally and if it annoys Verity the better. Romance and i won't tell you more about this part you will have to see. Action, because Verity can't stand by or keep her mouth shut but that's why we love.

Really even if you are new to the series don't hesitate to read this you will spend a great time!

Description from goodreads :

When out of work graphic designer Verity Long accidentally traps a ghost on her property, she’s saddled with more than a supernatural sidekick—she gains the ability see spirits. It leads to an offer she can’t refuse from the town’s bad boy, the brother of her ex and the last man she should ever partner with.

Ellis Wyatt is in possession of a stunning historic property haunted by some of Sugarland Tennessee’s finest former citizens. Only some of them are growing restless—and destructive. He hires Verity put an end to the disturbances. But soon Verity learns there’s more to the mysterious estate than floating specters, secret passageways, and hidden rooms.

There’s a modern day mystery afoot, one that hinges on a decades-old murder. Verity isn't above questioning the living, or the dead. But can she discover the truth before the killer finds her?

My opinion:
Funny but so much more! I really loved  this story...Verity is such a great heroine, she is strong, determined, loyal and not a damsel in distress.... I love how she stand up for herself even if it didn't really help with her ex who is taking all he can from her ( i sure do hope he will get what he deserves later in the story...i want him to suffer....)
now we only hear about him  so far but believe me you will hate him right on the spot.

Ellis is so different from his brother but at first he just thinks as does his family, fortunately being teh black sheep he opens up quickly and he is quite open minded really...not sure everyone would react as he dopes when learning there is a ghost speaking.

So after having sold all what was inside her grandmother house that she inherited to pay her ex Beau, Verity is devasted at the idea to have to sell the house...however while cleaning an ugly vase her ex left her she inadvertently imprison her ghost Frankie as it wasn't a vase but an urn holding his ashes. Stuck together for the time being the ghost of an gangster and Verity do their best to save the house and in the process Frankie allow her to see in the spirit realms and to speak to ghosts not only seeing them. With his "gift"  Verity is thrown into an adventure trying to find old treasures but also solve murders to appease some poltergeist.

Frankie is funny and i don't think he appreciates his family a lot ( because yes he is an ancestor of the ex). He protect Verity and i liked their relationship. The other ghosts are also interesting ( i did learn a bit of history). However for me the investigation was solved a little too quickly  for me-i was suspecting someone very early and i got the vilain right- the space of the book though is perfect. Verity and Ellis relationship or in fact simply trust this far build slowly, we learn about the ghost space and about each of them all while investigating.... really well done

I will be delighted to continue this series for sure and you will probably come to love Lucy but i will let you discover who it is. This is a fantastic paranormal cozy mystery with a touch of romance and humour
