Visions in Silver ( The Others 3) by Anne Bishop

Hello to all!!

i know i'm late to post but between mother's day, my mother's multiple medical appointments etc i really need  more than 24h in a day.
So with the sun shining, i decided to make a break in the InCryptid universe ( wouldn't want you to get fed up of it) and jump back in the universe created by Anne Bishop in her " The Others" series...the next book is only available in hardback for now so it will probably be long before i get my hand on it but  i will for sure

Happy reading!

Short description from goodreads :

The Others freed the  cassandra sangue  to protect the blood prophets from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences. Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before—both from their own weaknesses and from those who seek to control their divinations for wicked purposes. In desperate need of answers, Simon Wolfgard, a shape-shifter leader among the Others, has no choice but to enlist blood prophet Meg Corbyn’s help, regardless of the risks she faces by aiding him.

Meg is still deep in the throes of her addiction to the euphoria she feels when she cuts and speaks prophecy. She knows each slice of her blade tempts death. But Others and humans alike need answers, and her visions may be Simon’s only hope of ending the conflict.

For the shadows of war are deepening across the Atlantik, and the prejudice of a fanatic faction is threatening to bring the battle right to Meg and Simon’s doorstep…

My opinion:
Finally! finally i could read this,  the wait was so long but it was worth it ( Thank you once again Carien!!)
The author is really talented to keep the series entertaining  giving us more info on the Others but also making us more curious by adding more secrets and tension. The relationship between Meg and Simon or Meg and the Others in general is still very interesting with a lot of funny moments.

However i must also admit that Anne Bishop wrote this one a lot darker than the first books, yes there were still humor but it seemed less with the tension and more profound moment....i don't want to spoil anything to you so i won't explain just telling you that your heart will constrict at time and perhaps tissue will be needed. No fear though those moments  are spaced and in between you have fun, action and all you need. Meg, in a sense, is becoming more mature, trying to understand her need better to help others girls like her of course that doesn't go as smoothly as we would have wished for her.

We still see Sam and Skippy ^^  both still so adorable, the girls gang is still fierce together (Vlad really prefer to have them one at a time coming to speak to him than together^^ yes we can be worse than a vampire). Simon is acting like a real leader....as well as like a puppy at a time ( too , too funny^^)
The story is fascinating, the tension between and into each group  is growing and loyalties are tested...letting us know that we will see more later.( And that's teh reason i should never start a book in this series in teh evening because i can't stop reading it even if it's way too late ( or too early in this case)

So this is a series i really want to continue and i can't wait to get my hand on book 4 and waiting for book 5 already.

Description from goodreads :

Return to New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop’s “phenomenal” (Urban Fantasy Investigations) world of the Others—where supernatural entities and humans struggle to co-exist, and one woman has begun to change all the rules…

After winning the trust of the Others residing in the Lakeside Courtyard, Meg Corbyn has had trouble figuring out what it means to live among them. As a human, Meg should be barely tolerated prey, but her abilities as a cassandra sangue make her something more.

The appearance of two addictive drugs has sparked violence between the humans and the Others, resulting in the murder of both species in nearby cities. So when Meg has a dream about blood and black feathers in the snow, Simon Wolfgard—Lakeside’s shape-shifting leader—wonders if their blood prophet dreamed of a past attack or a future threat.

As the urge to speak prophecies strikes Meg more frequently, trouble finds its way inside the Courtyard. Now, the Others and the handful of humans residing there must work together to stop the man bent on reclaiming their blood prophet—and stop the danger that threatens to destroy them all.

My opinion:

I so loved  this sequel... i mean it’s even better than book 1....so much that i couldn’t stop reading even if i should have since it was deep night but it was so good that  i could only switch off the light for 5min before i had to get up again and continue reading until the last page.

Anne Bishop created an universe complexe but so captivating that  you get immersed easily even if you don’t know a lot about if you are just  so  immersed in the story that you don’t feel as you are missing anything. I really loved to see in this sequel how Others from the world lived, reacted to humans being and at the same time to see how those we already know adjust to the changes that are happening.

I don’t want to tell you too much to avoid spoiler and it’s the kind of story where it’s really difficult to reduce our opinion on a few facts only... to resume this one had me laughing as crazy, cry a little, smiling most of the time.
Simon is still Simon and  it was great to see how he is viewing his human pack now, i want more of Skippy and Sam...also of Whirlpool

Now ity’s also true that this one was a bit darker than the precedent book which fit perfectly with the events happening or that could happen as the author manages to always let us know a little more but keeps a large bit a mystery.

Really it’s a series to discover if you haven’t started it already and i can’t wait to get my hand on the next book as soon as i can and book 4 releases this year ( hardcover first but hey it’s around my birthday so i can hope because waiting one more year ( which i will have to do for book 5 ) is way WAY too long!!!)

Score:  5/5

Short description from goodreads :

No one creates realms like "New York Times "bestselling author Anne Bishop. Now in a thrilling new fantasy series, enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities--vampires and shape-shifters among them--who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans.
As a "cassandra sangue," or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut--a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg's Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard--a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she's keeping a secret, and second, she doesn't smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she's wanted by the government, he'll have to decide if she's worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

My opinion:
Awesome! I have been recommended this book since it was released and it caught my interest but somehow it was not a priority since it was not easy to get them either… however the want has been growing with each release when I saw my friend enthousiam…I was really lucky when one of them decided that it was time to step in and offered me the first book “ Written in Red “ for my birthday.  I could not be happier, not only this book is as good as I was told but it’s even better. Oh it’s violent, there are a lot of blood and deaths but it’s not a dark book either.

Anne Bishop created a complete new world with its own rules, all kind of creatures and she was really thoughtful. This world makes sense so much in fact that it seems like only being a foreign, dangerous, but not so far country. In this world the deity created human beings but also others, called “terra indigene”, that includes shifters, vampires, elementals and so many others, some we are not told a lot about it yet. The particularity in this universe is that, for once, it’s the others who are dominant; humans are seen like invaders, preys and others only allow them some lands but at soon as troubles arise, humans are simply disposed of… ( to put it lightly^^). Some others have decided to keep watch on the human, learn a little from them and they created cities ( courtyard, part of the city, where only others live and where only their rules apply) with shops, restaurant etc… in the Lakeside courtyard, some job are open to human and some have access to restricted place  for example to the bookshop (;))… to be functional courtyard receive shipment from abroad but delivery can be difficult if you think you will be eaten when delivering a package, so the human liaison was established….to be a link between human  delivery men mostly) and the resident a little like a postman but so much more and of course this isn’t an easy job as others aren’t entrusting anyone with info about them.

When Simon, the leader of the wolf and courtyard, see Meg for the first time she isn’t looking much…nearly frozen she is intriguing him because she doesn’t smell like a prey….upon instinct he decide to hire her not knowing she fleeing from very powerful men using her to make profit until she dies from it. Soon frustration evolve in something else and the whole community start to get attached….and others protect fiercely who is their.

Really it was simply perfect, the world, the pace the characters building, I just want more!. The plot is wonderfully constructed and we get surprises along the way, the choice of creatures and their specificities is astounding . It was fabulous and it’s too hard to resist the cute Sam , really too cute  my heart went for him along the way ( and for Hurricane). Simon was amusing when he tried to be human polite and just ended frustrating or insulting his clients. Meg with her innocence and kindness wins the reader over in mater of minute and secondary characters like Henry, Jester, Nathan, Jake and the humans ( Merri jean, Ruthie, Monthy) were fantastic in their own way and we do want to see more of them ( what are the crows building?).

Really if you love urban fantasy and haven’t gotten this series yet don’t hesitate any longer, you won’t regret it! For me, I will try to get a copy of book 2 ( and 3) as soon as I can manage

Score:  5/5
